  • Valencia – injured podenca still needs help

    Valencia injured podenco 250 1 2 2013Earlier in the year I appealed for help to save an injured podenca in Valencia perrera. She was saved and is now in foster care, receiving veterinary treatment for her nasty wounds. She has been named Valentina and is in the care of Protectora des Animales Mes Que Gossos. The vet bills for her treatment have mounted up and donations are desperately needed to pay for these. I understand she has been chipped and vaccinated. Especially she really needs a forever home. If you can help, please contact Dominique, or Paypal the association at mesquegossos@hotmail.es and specify ‘donacion Valentina’. Pic below of her original injury and how it is healing, although there is still a long way to go.

  • Valencia perrera – female podencos on death row

    Valencia femalelessthan1year 250 whiteandredapril2013I’m now back home at my main computer and can post the photos of the 8 podencos currently in the perrera at Valencia. This little lady is not yet a year old! All females, the only male was saved a couple of weeks ago and also a white female. The black one is very unusual but sadly on CESE which is fast track to killing – on the instructions of the owner! All are very young, a couple are under a year old! Details of costs needed to save them, and also to pay kennel fees.

  • Urgent – 3 pod pups need foster homes and podenca Blanca needs a very special forever home

    Roz Lewis Blanca 4 2013Urgent appeal from Rosemary, who lives in Valencia region and rescued Podenca Ana a couple of years ago.

    ‘I rescued a beautiful white Podenco and have named her Blanca. I had been feeding her for a long time, then she got sick and I managed to catch her. She was very sick, she had very bad anemia, the vet originally said she was 3-4 years old, so I went of and found her a fantastic home to go to and the lady waited and waited for her to get better.

    Last week the head vet told me that although Blanca was much better she could never be vaccinated as her immune system is just not working well and that she thinks she is nearer nine years old. Blanca also needs to be on steroids now for the rest of her life.

    This meant her home fell through and now I am looking to find somewhere for her to spend the rest of her days. I cannot begin to describe how loving this girl is and how easy she is to look after.

  • Chocolate podenca Angela saved!

    Bev Angela 1 250 30 3 2013Update from Bev Farmer, who saved Angela from being killed last week.

    Angela had a good first night her blood tests confirm she is positive for ehrlichria but negative for Leishmania, filaria and babesia. She has a severe ear infection, and this has caused irreparable damage to one of her ears. Angela weighs 13 kilos and should be about 20 kilos the photos don’t really reflect how thin she is. She has longer hair but when I bathed her last night I could feel every individual rib and vertebra in her back.

  • Urgent foster or shelter for podenca with bad dermatitis, Seville

    Carmina Maya 1 250 30 3 2013Little podenca suffering from terrible dermatitis, here’s what the volunteer says.

    ‘We’ve called her Maya. Found in a park in Seville. The person who found her cannot have her in her home and our refuge is saturated. We will have to put her in a kennels rather than put her back on the street. Please can anyone help with either a foster home or space in another refuge?’

  • Podenca Leire saved

    Update on podenca Leira in Madrid. Thank you Kathryn for tracking it down.

    ‘The girls of the association took out the little podenco Txari, and they reserved Leire to take her out next Wednesday! So they are not going to be killed!’
