  • Why a Dog Sleeps – from Galgos 112

    Galgos 112 why a dog sleeps 400 1 3 2021
    The break in dogs.

Do you know that for a dog the break isn’t just sleeping? it’s also being relaxed with nothing to do.

Overall an adult dog usually sleeps about 13 hours a day. Dogs sleep more hours a day than people do, but wake up more often. They usually stay in deep sleep a little while and so they wake up with small noises.
Puppies usually sleep 90 % of the time.

And on many occasions in fact, it’s very common to wake them up to keep us company or to tell them something or because they’re dreaming, etc.
And this is a common mistake. Your dog’s health is at stake, the break is very important.

But to achieve this, it’s not enough not to disturb you. You must create a suitable environment to get her to relax and sleep.

  • Podenca Carly – happy Gotcha Day

    Bev Carley and PJ 400
Copied and pasted from Dave Inglis and Sandra Inglis post (Carly’s adoptants)

‘So the story starts in April 2019 when we were over at Podenco Friends on a “working holiday” with Beverley Farmer; the “working” I get (which Bev does day in day out), not so sure about the “holiday” part!!

A rescue comes in with a Podenco bitch and a small Galgo pup which she had been protecting on the streets, this was Carly and PJ (‘cause that’s what he was wearing, pyjamas!). We were immediately smitten with Carly, a dog who had gone through so much but still was the gentlest of souls, never demanding nor expecting much but gamely continued on with her various untreated damages and illness.

Please give this lots of publicity.

  • Update on Podenco Brothers Camilo and Eloy

    From Polly Mathewson

Dear Friends, just a little hello to let you know how our heroes, podenco brothers ELOY & CAMILO are doing!

This is them with their lovely Christiane enjoying some home schooling before some running around time in the patio with their hound friends.

As you can see Eloy seems to be moving more comfortably, so we hope his pain medication is starting to help. Again thanks to everyone for your kindness and generosity and work with the recent wonderful Verein Windhundhilfe Malaga auction. The funds are helping to cover the boys’ ongoing vet needs now they sadly have their new spondylosis diagnosis. Eloy and Cami are learning “busca busca busca” to hunt for tasty treats under the cushion, and all the time getting more comfortable with human contact.

Also they are getting more comfortable as we are sneaking in more and more cosy things into their kennel. This is all practice for a proper home, but we think they like their new raised chill out zone. Thanks to Pilar trainer for this nice supermarket pallet recycling and pretty carpet.

  • Podenco Oreo – happy in his forever home

    Rhonda Martins pod 400 2 2021

Rhonda Martins tells the story of how she came to be a podenco adoptant and the start of her passion for them and homing them.

‘In January 2014 a small chocolate and white Podenco puppy traveled to Canada to his new home. Things didn’t work out as planned as they do sometimes and in a totally unplanned series of events our family ended up fostering him. We had never had a podenco, let’s call this baptism by fire. Our lives were changed forever by little Oreo the pod puppy from Podenco Friends in Spain, he never left our home and we adopted him in January 2015.

Late September in 2016 I was given the opportunity to travel to Spain with my friend Jeanette, we were to spend some time at Bev and Warren’s and then fly home with Podencos and Galgos our organization had helped to find forever homes for. At that time I could never have imagined the impact this trip would have on myself and my family. Bev and Warren were amazing , and I have never worked so hard in all my life. Running a rescue is certainly a labour of love.
