Kaori is a beautiful, 6 year old big-eyed podenca dog we rescued from an olive grove in the middle of winter, terrified as she tried to protect the puppies she’d just given birth to from the cold. She probably belonged to a hunter who would use her for breeding for years, and when she was no longer useful to him, he abandoned her regardless of her condition. Thus, Kaori is a dog with many insecurities when it comes to interacting with people, and the shelter is too stressful a place for dogs like her, so her development is completely stalled here.
She has a very, very noble character. She’s a dog who has never had a bad attitude toward her caregivers, despite her fears. She even allowed us to help her care for her puppies, calmly observing us and grateful for saving them. She’s very good with other dogs; she follows the temperament of her group and always follows a pack leader. However, with people, she’s much more distrustful; she only feels relaxed with the people she sees daily, with whom she enjoys interacting more and seeks out petting.
We recommend adopting this dog for families with experience with fearful dogs, who have another balanced dog for the dog to lean on, and who also have a well-protected home without low fences that the dog can jump over (at least 2 meters).
