90 podencos trapped in cages on Mogan, Gran Canaria. Background here.
From PACMA 6/4/2020
Today I have very good news to give you! After seven years, the Civil Guard has finally rescued those known as “90 podencos de Mogán”.
I tell you how we have managed it so that you too can celebrate it with us and continue helping us save animals:
Since 2013, we have denounced the state in which 90 hounds were in an unclean construction in the Gran Canaria municipality of Mogán. For years, individuals, PACMA and protectors denounced it. In 2015 we did it again and managed to get the animals confiscated, but then the owner fled with the dogs. It was located some time later in Agüimes. There he crowded them again and again we denounced him.
We have not given up for years.
This Friday our coordinator in Las Palmas, Iris Sánchez, alerted by a person from the area, warned the Civil Guard of the absolute abandonment of the animals during these days due to the state of alarm.
Several patrols, accompanied by the Agüimes Local Police, came and rescued the 83 hounds that were overcrowded there. The dogs were transferred to the Albergue de Bañaderos.
Today we have to celebrate that, seven years after the first complaint, these animals have finally been rescued. Many have died during this time, others have continued to be born, tied 24 hours or locked in tiny spaces, living with the corpses of their companions and feeding on their own faeces.
Today we have to celebrate that the perseverance, the work of the animal associations and that of PACMA has returned to bear fruit. Today we celebrate that 83 animals are safe.
To continue helping them, we need your help.
AFFILIATE or DONATE so we can take the abusers to jail.
We continue!

Thank God you have the perseverance and love of animals to have fought for seven…SEVEN long years for these beautiful dogs…I can not begin to imagine how many times you all must have felt despondent and on the verge of giving up. Thank you so much for all your hard work in rescuing these wonderful dogs, that hopefully will be able to go on with heir lives in homes where they will be loved and cared for as they deserve. As for the vile cruelty of the hunters…I cannot write what I really want to, I just hope they get their true comupence and just deserts… What goes around comes around
Could I ask where are these Podencos now, and will they be rehomed?
Hi Dawn, this is the weblink to the facebook page of the group I have been following, but you could also consult PACMA about the rehoming -be a while as they are the subject of the court case, as you will know. I read the dogs have been spread about shelters and fosters. I will be pleased if you find out more and can share it. https://www.facebook.com/90podencos/?__tn__=%2Cd%2CP-R&eid=ARBQqqEssOPPBDBY-2CgCSEqG1_g3W91P4CGZgxm0pt6HvS2j0O8MTPmLZ1Z9T8eXFyaAG4wJHHYjmyM
