Yet more publicity about the appalling abuse of podencos on Gran Canaria, just a few miles inland from the beaches and apartments frequented by the tourists. This report from Kurt who visited the Island as a tourist. (Google translation)
‘After a very difficult year, a week of Gran Canaria, and then you go because it’s almost as far as you can make your nieuwjaarsvoornemens and walk around…. FIRST YOU MEET 2 Neurotic horses in a mini garage and then a Beautiful Dalmatian on the chain that is so scared… well of walking is long gone… crying of powerlessness… in the “house” Strolling I hear a lot of dogs barking and go see…
Horror of a hundred dogs some dead in a big cage with no water and food….the stink, the crying of those dogs goes through marrow and leg… completely off the map I go home… after that first shock is processed, we rush to the supermarket to get a cart full of food and water…. we get back there at Auschwitz for dogs – there is there a man right next to that cage watering plants while those animals dying of thirst…
When I asked in my best Spanish if he wanted to give those animals some water, we got a rain of stones to our heads…. wonder at miracle nobody seriously hit… also this is Europe 2017
I don’t leave it here… Police, Governor, animal rights organizations have been notified and working on it…. but it’s hard and now you have to listen to what the law says here…. For use only be required to feed them 2 times a week for food and drink!!!??
Now I’m looking for people in the neighborhood who with me eat and drink… only feed and that scum in the meantime keeping distance is a little difficult, but with a few, it should be possible.
Will attach some photos and videos and the location… please share widely as I have to return to Belgium’ Dear fellow man don’t think another will do it… no they don’t. Don’t put your head in the sand because doing nothing do help means the hell goes on…
This is the same case as the 90 Podencos at Mogan, they have now been moved to the Playa Vargas area.

This is just horrendous, poor animals. Is anything being done about this or are the authorities just ignoring it? The ‘man’ who owns these animals is absolute scum and needs rocks throwing at him and wiping off the face of the earth. I can’t go on holiday to any of these places where they treat animals like this. I would rather stay at home because it wouldn’t be a holiday it would be hell, knowing I can’t do anything about it.
There are many people locally who are trying to get the authorities to do something about the situation, but it’s not helped by them being hunters themselves and see no problem with keeping dogs like this. If a dog is started, it will hunt better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But at least the activists keep on the case and keep pushing for the dogs to be got out and the owner to be prosecuted.
