For those of you following the story of little podenca Reina – she who walks on 2 front legs! Here is the story written by her adopting Mom about why she chose this sweet and deserving dog.
Story from a Future Podenco Mother
After the loss of my former Podenco Takkie in December, I just only wanted to look on the Internet and get a good laugh to comfort me, by watching Podenco videos, knowing these dogs are the funniest in the world!
But the laugh turned into Love at First Sight, seeing Reina in one of the videos.
Found in a ditch at the side of the road in Spain, severely hit by a car, unable to stand with broken hips, 48 hours after rescue and surgery she had her leg in a plaster cast and a wag her tail until her too big bathrobe almost fell off.
With love and compassion she was taken care by Spanish ladies Reme and Manuela and Refugio Recal, supported by Podencoworld in the Netherlands, the same foundation who organized everything for adoption of my former podenco 6 years ago,
Was this a sign? It was!
Reina has stolen my heart due to her will to fight, resilience, intelligence and joyfulness. Although walking with her leg in a plaster cast, she found out she can run on her front paws to catch up and play with her host family brother and sisters dogs Harry, India and Pinti.
Now the plaster cast has been removed and the next check up will be in March to see whether more surgery is needed on her right leg. For now, she has to gain strength and recover, surrounded by her loving host family in Spain.
Fantastic to see how many people care for one little creature called Reina, meaning Queen
Reme, Manuela, Dr Juan de clinico veterinario de la Paz, Mada de Recal and Evalien de Ruiter from Podencoworld and probably many others: respect! What a job well done!
Reina is worth the waiting and this Podenco mother is looking forward to embracing her future Podenco girl and to put her in her golden dog basket…….
Thank you Astrid for adopting this special little hound.
