Pepi’s Xmas Auction – fabulous range of items for Xmas gifts

Auction picture 2 400For those of you who are on facebook or able to see facebook pages, Jan, Sam, Nina and I are running an Xmas auction – this is the link to the album.

There is still an horrendous 5,300 euros vet bill to pay off for Pepi’s refuge and this is the reason we are organising this auction. Please join in if you can, share with your friends.

Pepi’s Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Seville, has an outstanding vet bill of 5,300 euros, accumulated since October 2014. How on earth did they run up such an amount, you ask. Quite simply a decrease in donations – on which Pepi’s survives – and a large increase in sick and injured dogs, especially the parvo virus outbreak in all the puppies over several months.

October 2014 – 10 tiny puppies in a laundry bag were dumped at the main Pepi’s gates. Unfortunately they all caught the parvo virus. Despite medical care, only 2 survived. Parvo causes intestinal problems; in Alfie’s case it involved 2 vet visits for operations to put his intestine back inside after it came out. Special puppy food was needed for the 2.

February 2015 – 2 pregnant galgas were dumped at the main Pepi’s gates. They produced 22 galgo puppies. Sadly they too caught the parvo virus and only 14 survived, despite Jane Brian’s sole care, washing in strong bleach solution etc to contain the virus. 2 puppies needed clinical care, blood tests, blood transfusions, all needed special puppy food…this continued for 5 months.

During all this time more dogs and puppies were dumped or thrown over the 2metre high fence – all needed health checks, worming, parvo vaccinations for other puppies arriving, more special puppy food, special milk for tiny pups too small to have been taken from their mother which Jane had to bottle feed, scalibor collars to prevent sandfly bites causing leishmania.

August 2015 – Anka is another podenca found at the refuge gates. She’d obviously been used as a breeding machine. But worse, the vet examination revealed she had been punched so hard in her face that it pushed her eyeball right back, rendering her blind. She had severe conjunctivitis, pads were red raw, mammary tumours which needed operating on to remove, and spaying at the same time. More medicines and aftercare.
March 2016 – podenca with injured back leg needing an operation and medicines.

March 2016 – another podenco with a broken front leg, after examination by the Pedrera vet, was sent to the specialist vet in Antiquera – more expensive treatment.

The village police called about a bulldog dying on a village pavement. He was rushed to the vet and lengthy and expensive care followed to bring him successfully back to full health.

Dogs are often thrown over the fence, many times resulting in broken legs. More vet visits for operations and after care.

Alaska is a galga dumped at the refuge. From her mouth to her bottom she had lesions and raw areas. More vet visits and expensive treatment.

September 2016 – 4 month old podenco puppy found in the village with a broken hind leg. Yet another little injured soul needing an operation and aftercare.

September 2016 – Galgo Corley brought to the refuge by his master, 2 years old with a twisted front leg – more operations and aftercare.

All this on top of caring for and feeding over 50 dogs and puppies.

This bill HAS to be cleared! The auction is full of fabulous items for Christmas and birthday gifts – some stocking fillers, some specials. Please bid and share with your friends.
