Although I don’t post them here, there are hundreds of podencos being killed in Spanish perreras every week, most of them either puppies or under 3 years old….
Hundreds more podencos are waiting and waiting in shelters and refuges, already safe from being killed. They desperately need forever homes to make room for the ones in perreras to be saved.
Please contact a rescue association if you can offer a forever home to one of these fabulous hounds. Here’s a comprehensive list.

In just a few weeks time, Arran, a gorgeous young wirehaired podenco ibicenco will be travelling to me from Beverley Farmer, Podenco Friends, he had been in a pound since he was weeks old and is now around ten months and was very underweight and with scabies. I can hardly wait! he will be great company for my podenca x, Lottie, my three galgas, my Bod x and mastin x. If I had the money and the physical strength I wouldn’t hesitate to adopt more, these dog especially the hunting types do not deserve the fate they meet in Spain, and they shouldn’t be in pounds and refuges for months/years, they have so much joy and love to give.
Ah that’s lovely news Fiona. Lucky Arran and I must say I am envious of your fabulous collection of dogs! Would love to see some pictures and also any news on Arran as he settles in to his new home.
fiona you are great you are a star i would love to addopt one but cant for a while i have rescue sight hounds ireish ones and a galgo adopted year and half ago i only live in small house 2 up 2 down and only have a bk yard and i have a dalmation when i get a bigger house with a garden could be a long way off though but deffo will addopt in the future
it breaks my heart for these poor souls the governments need pressurising to put the ban in place for all dogs including the sight hounds this is the only way this madness is going to end
