This is a story from Marie Stacey of Little Pod Association which came in on 20 June when I went on holiday. It has a sad beginning but it gets much better as the little podenco is making a good recovery.
‘This little boy is one of Faith and Merlin’s pups from December 2012 and was originally called Hugo. On Friday 20th June 2013 he was out on his morning walk with his mum and furbie brother when a car deliberately crossed over the road, mounted the pavement and ran him over. If there weren’t witnesses to this awful incident, I would never believe it. Unfortunately they were so shocked and concerned for Bod they did not get the van registration so not much hope of finding the driver. He is such a sweet, gentle little fellow who was loving his new life with his family. He has undergone surgery and is now doing well.
When Bod had a visitor, to everyone’s amazement he got up and took 2 steps… Just 48 hours after his surgery!!
Update – Tuesday… the Surgeons are really pleased with the results of the surgery. I am just waiting for the 2nd lots of x-rays so I can show you all what’s been done. Bod is comfortable and will be moved later today to another vet where he can begin his recovery and rehabilitation. He is confused, in pain but happy to see his Mama.
UPDATE – Last night Bod was moved from Novelda to Willie and Eva from Canisax vets in Sax. They are wonderful, caring people and Bod is in great hands. Here they will begin his rehabilitation. They called this morning to say although he is unable to move for the next few days he had a comfortable night. He is eating and drinking and doing well.
Sometimes life is vicious beyond just cruel and unfair beyond comprehension. Poor Bod was injured internally, externally, mentally and emotionally. This beautiful boy has been broken into pieces today but we have promised him and his family we will do all we can to help him
He has 3 breaks in pelvis and hips. He has injuries and the remains of a tyre print across his face and head. He has deep cuts and wounds that were stitched and abrasions and bruising all over his head and little body. His spleen was swollen and bruised, they think his bladder will be ok.
His poor family are devastated that this could have happened. I have spent the afternoon with them and shed many tears with them. They love him so much and all we can do for now is wait, hoping the surgery goes well and he can make a good recovery. He is in the best possible place with one of the best bone surgeons.
There are more pictures in his album (on facebook)of his injuries and x-rays should you wish to see them. His surgery alone will be costing 1478.38€.
The 2 eye witnesses that stopped have said the van crossed over the road DELIBERATELY AIMING for Bod and after hitting him carried on. This was no accident, the driver did not swerve to miss him, the driver knew what he was doing. There was a 3rd vehicle behind the 2 that stopped and we are asking them to come forward if they saw anything. Again you can contact us on 660832360 if you have any information. This CRIME (not accident) happened at 9.30am in the morning on the Villa Martin to San Miguel Road.

Update 1 July – Bod is doing well, he is still in a vet clinic but he has gotten up and they are walking him gently with a sling underneath him. His courage and strength has amazed us all. For those of you on facebook, here’s a short video clip

I am totally disgusted. I wish every misery on this van driver and wish that he suffers the same way Bod has, evil individual. Hope he gets his come uppance soon too because we don’t need any more sick twisted psychopaths roaming the streets. Poor, poor Bod. I am thinking of him and feels so sorry for his family. I will donate at the end of the month.
