From Spanish Perrera to Italian forever – happy Bimba

Ida Gaudenzi Bimba lying 250 1This is Bimba and she is now a happy podenca living with Ida Gaudenzi in Italy. Ida tells the story.

‘She came from the rescue Dejan Huella. She was little more than a puppy, around 1 year old, thin as a rake. I saw her picture online, she looked so lost. Her body language meant sadness, that hopeless attitude abandoned dogs have about them.

I contacted the rescue, they couldn’t believe I was coming from Italy to pick her up.
With the help of my good friend (and now Bimba’s Uncle) Giorgio we organized the airplane trip from Milan to Malaga, then to Cordoba with a rental car (he did most of the logistic work while I dealt with the rescue). Same on the way back, with a connecting flight in Rome.

Bimba travelled in the hold (too big for the cabin). From Malaga to Rome she had an over-enthusiastic admirer, a beautiful American Staffordshire who we could hear barking all the way to Rome, serenading her .

In Rome, while we waited for the connecting flight we took her out from her crate for a walk. There was a dried up orange peel on the floor outside Rome airport and Bimba tried to eat it. I found it so pathetic, poor girl, it gave me an idea of what her life must have been before she was rescued.

When we arrived in Milan she refused to leave my side to get in the car. I had to keep her on my lap for the hour drive home. She already knew she would be safe with me.’

She is beautiful, lucky girl and what a wonderful and dedicated thing to do to travel all that way for her. It is good to read a happy story.
