Two Happy Endings – Estrella and Lola

Estrella& Truman Frances 250 11 2011Followers of Galgo News 2 years ago may remember the story of Estrella, the rough haired podenca left behind in the Cell of 4 at Jaen killing station; the 3 galgas were rescued and rehomed. Estrella wasn’t supposed to be left behind but somehow she was missed. Happily her fate was discovered by Eva Andrews of Scooby Medina and, with the help of L’Europe des Levriers with whom I have worked on rescues, Estrella was brought out of Spain into foster with me.

Estrella was rehomed with a lovely young Englishwoman, Frances, and here’s what she writes about Estrella today.

‘Estrella is brilliant. Two years later and she is the perfect dog. No accidents inside the house any more, off lead she never runs off, she follows happily, loves being outside, but loves being on her bed asleep all day – on a nice comfy mattress. She’s affectionate (although she hates being on laps) and loves have her head stroked – obsessively actually. She’s canny too, the way to get her to eat all her croquettes food is to put fish on it! She seems to have a deep love for the flavour of fish. I wonder if it was from before, when she was in Spain? And you can see in the pic with Truman, on walks she has decided that she likes immersing her whole body at the end to cool off.’

Lola Tina 250 11 2011And this beauty is Lola. She was handed in to Galgos del Sol, who took her to the vet to check for microchip. Turns out she had been stolen and her owners were out of their minds trying to find her. They live an hour away from Torre Pacheco and Gds. How she got there is anyone’s guess. But happily they have all been reunited.

Just illustrates two points –

1. how important it is to have your dog microchipped and register ownership

2. don’t run any risks of your dog being stolen – the gitanos (Spanish gypsies) will steal them to sell back to the hunters.
