• Refugio Kimba in Cadiz – the oldest Animal Protective in Spain

    Refugio Kimba Pinky 400
(Pinky) The Protective Society of Animals and Plants of Cádiz, better known as “Kimba Shelter”, was founded in 1872 and is therefore the oldest Animal Protective in Spain.

Although in its origins the protection of the plants was mainly its exclusive purpose, finally and in 1966 the refuge was created that would house the abandoned animals.

Since then the work that has been developing this Protective, includes different paths but always aimed at the same purpose … the defense and protection of animals.

Here are some of the beautiful podencos waiting for forever homes – don’t let them be Invisible forever. Contact Refugio Kimba

  • Gran Canaria on fire!

A Canarian soccer player has offered his farm and barns for rescued animals. Report on this link.

And a report from PACMA. I’ve asked for a link to the petition if it is still running.

The #Canaryislands have become the last years in a pleasure of dogs and other animals used to hunt, which badly and die in unfortunate circumstances.

Another year, the victims of political neglect are still the same, and while there are no representatives of pacma in our mayors, municipalities and Parliament, they will continue to have no voice in the institutions. The path to the dignity of animals will continue to look eternal.

  • Podencos in danger in Gran Canaria inferno

    From PACMA Canarias

    https://pacma.es/provincias/las-palmas/

We received these unfortunate images of firefighters rescuing several hounds from a cache in an area affected by fire.

A few more minutes and those animals would have died suffocated or charred by the irresponsibility of those who left them moored in the middle of the field without any kind of escape.

In The Canary Islands, #pacma has been denouncing the presence of animals tied in the ravines and rural areas without any supervision, precisely because of the danger that it entails for themselves in cases of fires such as the one that happens, floods and all kinds of disasters. Even though the animal protection act makes clear the illegality of leaving animals in environments where proper surveillance can not be exercised, this type of practices follow whether to pursue or punish.

Who will pay the firefighters to play the guy to save the lives of these animals because of the irresponsible?

  • Podenco Friends – HINGA FOR ADOPTION IN THE UK

    Bev Hinga 400 12 8 2019
    From Bev Farmer.

‘The first photo is where we rescued Hinga from in Gran Canary that was her life chained to a wall with green rancid water and little food. She is 5 years old and before been rescued she lived in a darken building in temperatures over a 100ºf along with 5 other Podencos. Her past life has left Hinga with concerns about meeting new people especially men and nervous about new situations. However once in a settled routine she is quite a lovely podenco who is happy to just curl up and sleep in her bed, play with her toys, being a typical pod counter surfaces, tea leaf, don’t leave shoes around, and loves going for long walks.

She has been in foster in the UK for a few months and she is doing really well, just been on a camping holiday.

  • Podenco Friends – Bev Farmer – From the Heart

    Bev Carley and PJ 400 11 8 2019
‘A few days ago I collected PJ´S ashes and he is now back home and his casket is next to Midas. PJ was the last pup to come to the finca that received the kiss of Midas and in the first photo was the day Midas was getting his chemo and we had to bring Carley and PJ to the clinic . Whilst Carley was having her xrays etc we brought PJ in with us and what a precious couple of hours I was sat with them both and we all fell asleep curled up together.

That Friday I was thinking we are going to kick this cancer shit for Midas and he will recover and we will discover why PJ has problems with his liver and will get him better .. But that didnt happen and 3 days later I had to let my beautiful MIdas gain his wings. Then the fight was on for PJ he was a gift from the gods so much wisdom for one so young who made it quite clear he was my boy.

  • Podencos saved from a life of hell!

Great news for these podencos! The original story on Podenco Post. Read the story here.

  • Tilly – the life-changing podenca – don’t forget the oldies

Bev Tilly back in 2003 when rescued 400
I first met podencos when I travelled to Spain in 2007 with a French rescue association L’Europe des Levriers, and that’s when I got involved in publicising what fabulous hounds they are and the terrible maltreatment they suffer at the hands of the Spanish hunters, both on mainland Spain and the Canary and Balearic Islands. Here Bev Farmer writes about the podenca which changed her life.

‘This photo is of Tilly back in 2003 when we first adopted her from a local rescue here in Spain, what was a podenco? I had no clue but I leaned very quickly and to say she tested me is an understatement. I considered myself an experienced dog owner, having dogs my whole life and Dobermans for over 20 years but everything I knew about dogs I threw in the bin and started from scratch with her.
