Scooby appeal for donations 3 2020 400
Last year, Scooby rescued 579 dogs and homed 158 here in Spain and 296 overseas: Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Holland, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA. Scooby saved 77 cats and homed 65. So far this year we have saved 204 dogs and cats and we’ve homed 199 of them. These are high numbers for our small team of about 10 staff. We are blessed with some dedicated volunteers, for which we are very grateful.

All of our work carries a lot of administration, not only Scooby’s own activities but also the liaison with our partners and the vast array of government paperwork we need to complete to make our international adoptions happen. In the last newsletter
we told you about our computers cracking under the strain and our administrator burning the midnight oil as a result. Thanks to your generosity, our supporters rose to the occasion and we were able to buy new Samsung Galaxy computers for the Scooby office and they have made such a difference to our efficiency. Thank you all very much.

We have not been able to complete all of the kennel repairs mainly because of a dearth of building labourers in our region but also due to funds. We are hoping to find suitable workers before the winter to get the work completed so that the sleeping areas in this block are protected from the elements.

In 2022, Scooby rescued 579 dogs and homed 296 internationally, 158 here in Spain. As for cats in 2022, we saved 77 cats and homed 65. So far in 2023, we have rescued 188 dogs and 16 cats, and homed 182 dogs and 17 cats.

While we do not have an Amazon Wish List, we most certainly do have an inventory if our donors ask what we need most. We tried the Amazon Wish List but it transpired to be too complicated and expensive on an international basis. Instead, it would be really helpful if donors who want to help culd cntribute towards the cost of the items we need. It works out much cheaper to make the purchase in Spain and means our Euros g much further. This way we can keep the food for the animals cnsistent This is a bonus for all the digestive systems in the shelter, and the cleaners!

Our biggest need is dog and cat food. Our annual dog & cat food bill is €80,000 – 120,000. Our second biggest need, is for parasiticide products for our cats and dogs to prevent and treat for various parasites, including fleas, ticks and worms.

Then there is the feed for the farm animals. This year we have spent €35,000 on hay. The yield was so poor that the price increased immensely. We are expecting this to go on escalating with harvests having been low and the Russian/Ukrainian war affecting grain prices.

If you would like to help us right at the heart of the shelter, the best most needed step you can take is to donate towards the items on the Scooby Wish List. These are perpetual expenses for the animals we rescue every year. If you can donate, no matter how much, every Euro will contribute to these massive costs we face on an ongoing basis.

Thank you

Please donate to Scooby to support them feeding all these animals, including horses and goats.
