This is not about a podenco, but it could very well be. It is about Seville perrera and a little innocent soul in there, on death row, due to die. Levriers sans Frontieres works with Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert to save these dogs. This is her story.

Blind podencos in Seville – latest update – looking for forever homes
Do you remember the appeal by Macu for help to pay for operations to restore the sight in the eyes of two podencos she had rescued from a galguero camp? Thanks to help from many people, the two dogs have both been operated on and here you can see a video of them enjoying life. Remember Atila, the young 2-year-old, had to hold his head at a peculiar angle to try and see – now he can look forward to a full life seeing everything! Two blind podencos in Seville – please donate to their operations
I recently reported about two podencos in Seville which Macu had rescued from Palmete, a settlement of galgueros and gitanos from where she saves many hounds. Both the podencos had eye problems. The younger one has been named Atila, just two years old, in good health apart from not being able to see. His problem is that there are waterfalls and tumours in each eye, and if enough money can be raised, the opthamologist can restore Atila’s sight 100%. At the moment, the poor dog spends a lot of time bumping into things or just not moving about atall. The amount needed – 1,600 euros to include the operation and follow-up tests. If Atila does not have the operation, he will be blind for life.

Seville podencos need help to save their sight
An appeal from Macu in Seville, for two podencos with eye problems, rescued from the gypsy settlement. She would dearly like to make a denuncia against these people but dare not for fear of reprisals. Here’s what she says.
‘These two podencos have sight problems. One is male aged 3 years weighing 11 kilos and one female.
The male is virtually blind and the vet has recommened he be taken to an ophthalmologist, as he believes the sight could possibly be restored. His neck hurts as he extends it to adapt to see.

Terrified podenco puppy abandoned in Seville – urgent foster or shelter please help
Urgent appeal from Mercedes in Seville.‘Hello. I need urgent help! I found this puppy podenco at the door of my work and it was terrified. I work in a place where there is a very dangerous road to the side, and I knew that leaving it there, it was only a matter of time before it would be injured. So, just in case the same day, I tied it next to my car. The poor dog was that be there for eight hours until I got out of work and took it home.

Seville – podencos for hire for hunting!
I’m still stuck in the UK because of snow, and struggling to post. Here’s a story I received earlier this week, emailed on to associations I hope can help, and now post you the story. Apologies though, as I’m using a computer which won’t allow me to post pix.
‘On January 6, 2013 I drove with my husband and adopted dog (from a perrera near Malaga, ‘El Paraiso’) from Tarifa to Seville, and on to Cordoba.
We stopped at a rural restaurant for coffee where I became aware of a whole lot of dogs crying somewhere in the vicinity.

Podenca Andaluz Luna in Seville – waiting for ever and ever for a family
This is the lovely Luna; she’s with Macu in Seville. She’s about 2 years old, medium sized Podenca Andaluz, was rescued a year ago with a rope round her neck, was fearful of everything. She’s now ready for adoption; wormed, vaccinated and sterilized; she’s fine with cats, other dogs and people. She is loving and obedient and just wants someone to love her. Macu works tirelessly saving galgos and podencos from a gypsy camp. In order to carry on, she needs her rescued dogs to be adopted. Prodeanse need help with Podenca bitch and 8 puppies
This is an urgent appeal to the good people, for people who are characterized by being the voice of these poor animals, the forgotten, the abused… This hound has suffered in her life and is now struggling to bring up 8 puppies. She was in a hovel, coping with the cold and heavy rains which have plagued Algeciras. She was found by a friend of Prodeanse who are going to take her into their care, to a kennels where Esperanza – for that is what she has been named – can care for her puppies, warm and dry.

Sinking in Seville – save the hounds from the galgueros
Immaculada – also known as Inma and Macu – of Seville does incredible work rescuing animals off the street and from a settlement of galgueros nearby. She deals with the vet, paying kennel fees, appeals to associations to help foster and rehome these hounds. Many of them I have featured on PP – including big hairy Podenco Campanero Chaplin, now happily rehomed in the UK with the help of SOS Animals. She’s currently got 9 podencos and 1 galgo, to name just 10!
Macu has sent this appeal. ‘It is very bad here, I have many animals that depend on me and to make matters worse I have no computer, I thought it was the hotmail account, and changed it to g.mail and even so, it is the computer…so I’m at my brother’s house using his computer, but I cannot connect and answer as fast as before.

Two young podencos desperately needing foster and forever homes. The young male Ibicenco is no good at hunting, so the hunter is going to kill him along with a couple of Breton Spaniels who he says also are no good as hunters. Seems good with cats, loves other dogs and people.
