  • Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – saving the podencos in Sevillia

FBM Bashira 1 250 1 2016Here are stories from Levriers sans Frontieres about 2 podencos, now safe with Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in Seville, and who will eventually come to France for forever homes.

Here’s the story of the first one, Bashira. After she was found at the roadside, throughout the journey to the shelter, she has not moved, not cried. she is so courageous and yet what she must suffer! She was rushed to the vet for urgent operation. Upon her arrival she was supported by Lillian, the veterinarian at the FBM, who took xrays. The legs are fractured, put in splints whilst waiting for an operation by the orthopedist. Under anaesthetic, her injuries have been disinfected and she was given antibiotic. This tiny podenca is barely a year old, what a terrible start to its life.

  • Foster home urgently needed for Podenco x Aaron

Pepis Aaron 250 6 2015Please can we find a foster home urgently for pod x Aaron. He is one of over 80 dogs at Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera Seville. Another one dumped at the gates – it happens on a regular basis…dogs come in quicker than can be homed!!

    Here’s what Jane Brian says.
‘I wonder if you can help with little guy? I have him living with us in the mobile home and I really don’t want to put him in the refuge.

He is an amazing puppy, very intelligent and obedient.

We estimate that Aaron is around five months. He is house trained to a point, he does his big business outside, but still does wee wee inside, he hasn’t grasped that concept as yet.’

Please contact Jane Brian direct, please help Aaron with either a foster home or, even better, a forever home.

  • Pepis Dog Refuge – ways to help care for 80 dogs!

There are now about 80 dogs at Pepis Dog Refuge in Pedrera, Seville. Many of them have been there for months, often since being puppies and dumped at the gates. They are all adorable. Have a look at the wonderful new website on which some of the dogs are listed – you’ll see many are podenco or podenco x. It takes time to add them all, as you can imagine! 80 dogs also cost a lot to feed, so if you can’t offer a dog a forever home, please consider sponsoring one. • Spanish hunters – no respect for property or life

Hunters 250 1 27 11 2013THE HUNTERS. Taken by Jane and Alan Brian, Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Seville.

‘We took this picture to show how close and dangerous these men are. The picture shows how close he was to our house, and he fired his shotgun next to the dog pens. The other hunter at the top of the hill, behind our house, we saw him shoot his gun towards the house, at a rabbit running, most hunters locally, respect that this is our home, but out of town hunters, just do what they want, and that’s to kill……’

Pity the podencos with him, what will he do with them when hunting ends…
