    The shame in Spain

I recently started my activities in a facebook group – Animal Welfare Support Murcia, whilst waiting for my Association, Actin, to be registered by the Town Hall. Actin – Animal Care Treatment International Network is not a rescue charity but an Association which will endeavor to make changes to the overwhelming situation of abandoned and neglected dogs, cats and other domestic animals in the region. We plan to do this through many activities including education and campaigns.

  • Operation Rehala, Murcia – 120 dogs at risk – the whole story

Bullos Murcia 2 250 3 3 201224 hours to save the dogs from Bullas
    6 March 2012
    by Irene Crespo

Yes, the authorities only granted 24 hours to rescue all the dogs in Bullas (Murcia) and out of the hell where they are. Removing the remaining 70 dogs in that situation in 24 hours … Mission Impossible?

Well this is not the first bureaucratic difficulty with which foundationn Pro-Setter (The association that is coordinatating the rescue of these animals) and volunteers from other organizations that work with them are encountering.

  • Valencia Podenco Andaluz puppy, rescued injured & starving – can you take him into your heart and home?

Valencia_podenca_1_250__17_1_2012Look at this cute little podenco, less than a year old, found wandering through a ravine with a broken tail and a femur fracture of a hind leg. The leg hung loose, like a rag doll’s leg. He was a skeleton, totally malnourished, with a sore eye and bore injuries on his nose and neck. He’s been called Aradio by his saviours.

The vet says Aradio has wandered for weeks with his leg dangling, possibly hit by a car. Understandably he was very scared of being caught but couldn’t run far with his injured leg.

  • Happy rehomings for some lucky podencos

Thank you to the Little Pod Fondation and Animal Welfare Support Murcia for organising to collect the little Seville podenca puppy and find her a forever home. Iggy Podenco is being adopted by an English couple also in Murcia (thanks to AWSM) and an English family have applied and are currently being approved to adopt Bella. And Luna is the one-eyed podenca with Galgos del Sol, who flew to the US with a galgo companion on 11/1/2012.

But there are dozens more needing your support and help, and the volunteers and associations are very grateful for whatever you can do, whether it is donations, fostering, adopting.
