The young male Ibicenco is no good at hunting, so the hunter is going to kill him along with a couple of Breton Spaniels who he says also are no good as hunters.     And this white beauty, Nana, is only 3 months old, found in the middle of a road in Poblet, Valencia. She is so good, quiet, submissive but cheerful. Seems good with cats, loves other dogs and people.   • Podenca Ibicenco, Valencia – safe foster/adopting home wanted

    Valencia Limba 250 3 10 2012Yet another injured, in Valencia. She’s not a year old yet and from what I can make out of the Internet translator, she was bred by a hunter, ran off at the first shots, was picked up by another hunter where the same thing happened. So now she desperately needs a place of safety, where her leg can be examined and treated. She’s been named Limba. The association need to find somewhere safe for her within the next couple of weeks.

  • Valencia podenco puppy urgently needs foster home

    Valencia podenco pup 200 3 18 10 2012This 3 month old podenco puppy was found abandoned a couple of weeks ago and has been in foster. She has been named Nana. Sadly she can’t stay with the fosterers and so an appeal is out for another foster home, or she will have to go into a shelter. She is quiet, happy, likes other dogs, ok with cats, wants to play in between sleeping! She really needs to be in a home where she can be trained, rather than a kennels.

  • Valencia – foster urgently needed for Nika to recover!

    Valencia hung Nika neck 200 10 2012Nika’s neck is healing well, he leaves the vet hospital tomorrow – Tuesday – but no one has come forward to foster him. Please please, anyone within travelling distance of Valencia, please help!

    The volunteer walked him for a little while, but he is still very afraid of everything. He needs a house to recover, cures and give him medicatio. If he has to go to the shelter, it is not the best place to recover If anyone can host please call me 645985775 Maribel Martinez Moya

  • Life in Valencia- not all it’s cracked up to be!

    You will remember the post recently about three podencos found hung, and shot. Here is another podenco, was he a victim of hanging also, or has he spent years growing up on the end of a rope, which is the fate of thousands of podencos? Luckily he has been rescued, from Xativa, Valencia.

  • Valencia – more podencos on the streets at grave risk

    Valencia podencos 1 9 2012 250Urgently need people who can help catch these three podencos on the streets of Valencia – there is now a hunter after them too. First there was one, now there are two more. They are also in danger from injury as they are on the roads, constantly crossing, looking for food. They are very fearful, so someone with a trap is needed, and hosts. They will be checked for microchips in case someone has lost them.

  • Electra – Podenco Xarnego Valencia – a new life awaits

    Electra 2 250Whilst there is only one type of galgo, there are many different types of podencos. Most of the best known are listed on Podenco Post homepage. However, there are pockets of Spain and Portugal where the locals have evolved their own ‘type’ of podenco, and Electra is one such, a Xarnego Valencia.

    The Xarnego Valencia is a local podenco dog race in Valencia. Its main function is to hunt rabbits and other types of small game; it is endowed with supreme attitude and perfectly adapted to the variety of different terrains and ecosystems that exist in the entire Mediterranean area.

  • Podenca Beatrize – from Valencia to Devon, UK – settling in well.

    Beatriz E Pendreich 190 8 2012At the beginning of July, I posted the story of Beatriz, a podenca rescued from Spain and now enjoying a new life in Devon. 6 weeks on, her Mom has written an update on her progress.

    ‘Having rescued beautiful podenca Beatriz from a little private rescue in Ontinyent, Spain, two months ago to a small farm in Devon, UK, she is now almost unrecognisable, temperament wise. She is still a little timid, especially with male strangers, but like all things, this will take time.
