A year or so back I published a story about a galgo rescued from a ravine by Baas Galgo. This time it’s a podenco stuck down a deep ravine, rescued by Galgos del Sol with the help of a local fireman. Judging from the skeletal condition of the poor hound, he’d been down there a while. Sometimes the dogs fall down these ravines when hunting, but at this time of year…no hunting…looks like his journey there was a different story. Now he’s safe, very tired, recovering with GdS. The fireman named him Moses. Here are the photos of his rescue.

Little Pod Foundation – trying to save 40 more podencos
You will all be horrified and sickened by this news which has come in from the Little Pod Foundation in Murcia.
This is the original message. ‘Calling ALL Podenco Lovers!! We have just received emails about 40 Podencos living in terrible conditions in Benissa. The majority are females being used for breeding. In the video clips (haven’t a link to it yet) you can see their dirty drinking water is out of reach, there is no food and they are all on short chains. You can see two already have severe inuries to their back legs and Seprona have already been called in and will going back in a couple of days. This situation is Urgent and these dogs need help!!! Please contact us if you can help in any way, thank you’
Further investigation has revealed the appalling news that the owner of these dogs is an officer of the law, and refuses to give them up!

Podenco dead on his feet – safe with Little Pod Foundation – seeking forever?
This is Alfred he was found collapsed in the blazing sun in a remote area of the campo on Friday the 25th May. He was one lucky Podenco found by Manuela and her friends out cycling. He was so exhausted that he couldn’t even raise his head to drink some water. Thankfully they picked him up and took him to a local vet who then contacted Little Pod Foundation.
On Friday we were very concerned, not only was he covered in ticks and fleas, his pads were ripped to shreds and very swollen, but most worrying he was unable to stand up.
Amazingly 72 hours later we see a different dog, what a recovery Alfred has made. He is negative for Leishmania, filaria and ehrlichia, has his passport and is ready to travel.

Delightful Daisy with Noah’s Arc, Mazarron – adopt her?
Daisy is a cute podenca in foster for the charity Noahs Arc, Mazarron, Here’s what her foster mom says about her. ‘I have had her since she was picked up from the Totana area, she is approx 4 1/2 months old, she was left tied to an English couple’s gate and was covered in ticks. Now she is beautiful now in every way, very loving, clean, walks well on a lead and good in the car, perfect pup.’
Please contact Noah’s Arc if you would like to offer her a forever home.
There’s also Lucy, another podenca, who you’ll see on this link.

SOS Cuenca dog pound – Young Podencos waiting forever…
SOS Cuenca have hundreds of dogs in the pound, each hoping they will catch the eye of someone who will take them into their heart and home. Here are some of the beautiful podencos which have been waiting for months…including 4 at the end which are podenco x. Most of them are babies, between 1-2 years old. They all get on well with other dogs, are affectionate, not been tested with cats, Aron, the chocolate one, needs to get out urgently because the other dogs won’t let him to the food and he is losing weight. Simeon is still nervous. If you can offer a home to one of them, please contact Oscar at SOS Cuenca. Website
Photos in the following order: Aron (above), Chedar, Chus & Olga, Cima, Gabo, Mar, Radar, Simeon, xpods Estre, Trucha, Otis, Viernes (galgo/podenco)

Starved podenco Abel – needs help and a home
Abel is young male Podenco about 10 months old, you can see he has not had the best start in life. He is very underweight, weak and will need some time for him to build up his strength. He is negative for Leishmania, filaria and elerichia and we hope he doesn’t have any long term health problems because of his neglect.

Bullas, Murcia – 50 podencos need getting out – Pro-Setter Spain organising, please help
I’ve just had news that there are still 50 podencos which need getting out of the camp in Bullas, Murcia, where the owner has been denounced and Seprona have said the dogs will be put down if they are not rescued. Here’s some pix of them. It’s a mammoth task as all the dogs rescued need flea and tick treatment, some have diahorrea, some are sick, most are malnourished.
