  • From Barcelona streets to Djimba and safety in France

    Cleao 2 djimba 250 4 2012This little lady is Cleo, just like my tiny Podenca Andaluz Bebe and, like Bebe, Cleo’s history is a sad one – luckily she is now in the caring hands of Betty at Djimba.

    ‘Cleo is a very small podenco that was found in December 2012 on the streets near Barcelona, her left fore leg was badly broken. She was taken to a vet and operated on, 4 metal plates were put in her leg. She stayed at the vet in a bench for 2 months and then should have gone to a shelter. However, due to her leg and the fact that she was very scared of people, she went to a foster home in Barcelona.

  • Gran Canaria Winter Sun Holidays – Roque Nublo nightlife

    Gran Canaria podencas 250 5 2 2012Gran Canaria for winter sun holidays! Great! So long as you close your eyes to all the abandoned dogs and cats roaming the Island. These three podenca bitches have been in the camping/picnic area near Roque Nublo since November. The only survive on what they can retrieve from the visitors. A concentrated effort is being made to catch them but, as you can imagine, after all this time, it won’t be easy. TARA shelter on Gran Canaria sent the news. I’ve asked them to let me know if the podencas are caught. And if you go on holiday to Gran Canaria, go and see the shelter at Mogan, they are always pleased to see people interested in their work.

  • Animal Welfare Murcia – new group to join

    Vivienne Wharton lives in Spain and is horrified with the terrible situation of abandoned dogs and cats. So she has just set up a group Animal Welfare Murcia. Here’s what she says.

    ‘I have no experience of writing to governments or campaigning. I only know I have a very strong urge to do something about the terrible situation in Spain, as I cannot bear what I see on an almost daily basis.

She has appealed to Pro-Galgo to find a foster and forever home for her. Here’s what Mo Swatek says. ‘We would like to help the dog but are already overbooked, so we need urgently a foster family for SHEBA in Spain and then adoptants anywhere over the world’.

  • Podenca Pup Lucia – already packed a lot of living into her short life

She’s been named Lucia, a beautiful name for a beautiful baby. She will be microchipped, vaccinated and blood tested and is looking for a forever home.   • 3 young podencos starving on the campo in Murcia – urgent help needed

    Puerto Real crop 250 30 06 2011 This poor bitch is one of three podencos abandoned close to the River (murcia). A boy who saw them and took the pictures said they look young, are skin and bones. Another man in the area is trying to shoot them. Please contact any of these people to find the exact area if you can help. With the heat, and without food and water in the middle of the campo, they will not last long.

  • Buddies on the streets of Cordoba – please help them

    Cordoba collid podenco 1 250 06 2011 This is the story of two buddies, a collie and a podenca. The collie has spent months wandering around an area of Cordoba. Recently he’s been joined by this little podenca. No one wants them, everyone walks buy, occasionally someone throws them a crust.

    They are young and don’t deserve this life. Can anyone find room to take them in? They both deserve a chance.
