  • Fuerteventura Dog Rescue – help with vet fees for badly injured podenco

    Fuerteventura Joy carried 400 8 2023
I don’t know the back ground to the rescue of this podenco – I have asked. But this is the ongoing story so far.

‘Joy, as we have named her, is still admitted with medication and serum. He can’t walk. They have done X-rays and more analysis. He possibly has rickettsia, pending lab results but will take a few days.

    Update.

Finally got baby girl out of the clinic last week (tested positive for rickettsia and is on treatment 28 days antibiotic). The neck injuries are getting better and slowly coming back to strength.

Thanks to our colleagues at the Esquinzo Finca Association, she has a host home until she is 100% recovered and then the Tierhilfe Fuerteventura Association e. V will be looking for a family to look after her for the rest of her life.

If you can help with vet costs it would be a great help. You can donate to our bank account or

  • Podenco Gideon hoping for a forever home

    Gideon 1 400 8 2023
Introducing Podenco Gideon, a cute and fluffy little boy!

They told me to tell you something that convinces you to take me with you, and I don’t know what to tell someone I don’t even know, even though I imagine you every day!… and even sleep with you!!. Sometimes you’re male some times you’re female, whatever! , Sometimes it’s just you and me in a small home, other times we are a big family and I play with the kids in the yard. Sometimes I have dog siblings and sometimes I don’t, but I have lots of friends at the park.

Sometimes there are three of us and on the weekends we go on a trip to the countryside for hours, we take risks, cross streams or just walk on the beach. In the end, dreaming is free and I do it sleeping and awake.

I dream of my home and you, I’m looking forward to being part of your life, be the excuse for you to leave before work….
Colorful dreams, what do you dream of?

  • Galgo Rescue International Network – the story

    Karin 1 400
The story of Galgo Rescue International Network by Abby who founded the Association in 2006.

I adopted my first ex-racing greyhound in the United States in 1997. I was unaware of the situation with the Spanish galgos until a friend introduced me to their plight in the early 2000s. By that time I had several retired racers and was involved in greyhound rescue, but there was something about the galgos and the extreme nature of their struggle that motivated me to become involved. I began working to gather medical and practical supplies to take to Scooby for my first trip in October 2005. I am a veterinary emergency and critical care nurse, and engaged three of my coworkers to join me in my first trip to Scooby.

  • News from Protectora Scooby Medina del Campo

    Scooby appeal for donations 3 2020 400
Last year, Scooby rescued 579 dogs and homed 158 here in Spain and 296 overseas: Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Holland, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA. Scooby saved 77 cats and homed 65. So far this year we have saved 204 dogs and cats and we’ve homed 199 of them. These are high numbers for our small team of about 10 staff. We are blessed with some dedicated volunteers, for which we are very grateful.

All of our work carries a lot of administration, not only Scooby’s own activities but also the liaison with our partners and the vast array of government paperwork we need to complete to make our international adoptions happen. In the last newsletter
we told you about our computers cracking under the strain and our administrator burning the midnight oil as a result. Thanks to your generosity, our supporters rose to the occasion and we were able to buy new Samsung Galaxy computers for the Scooby office and they have made such a difference to our efficiency. Thank you all very much.

  • I-CAD, Europenet.com, Checkachip.com – microchipping is compulsory for dogs, cats, horses and ferret

    Petlog_logo_350
A new programme on UK TV is called ‘Lost Dogs Live’ which is about getting the watching public involved in tracing lost dogs. One of the startling pieces of information to come out of the programme was that in the UK there are 15 registered microchip companies. Besides the importance of microchipping your dog, it is also vitally important that up-to-date information is registered with the microchip company about the address at which your dog/cat lives.

It is commonplace to assume that once you register with a veterinary clinic and they record your pet’s microchip, if the animal goes missing they will be able to trace if it turns up elsewhere, especially if it is suspected stolen.

    Not the case!
