  • Podenco in Belgium to be rehomed

    Roma 400 7 2024
    From Greyhounds in Need Holland

‘With a lot of pain in the heart, it has been decided to rehome Podenco girl Roma, who was adopted from FBM (Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert) at the end of April. From the beginning, the adopter fails to make a connection with the dog, Roma is very scared of the adopter and she does not get her on a leash. A behavioral therapist has already been included, but this is not bringing any progress. Roma is scared, but she can be approached by an acquaintance of the adopter, she is especially anxious of the adopter.

Probably something from her possibly nasty past in Spain. Once lined up, Roma likes going for a walk, she walks well on the leash.

The adopter is very sad with this situation and would love for Roma to go to someone where she can feel safe and confident.

  • Podencos on Fuerteventura, Canary Islands – desperate for forever homes

    Fuerteventura 1 400 7 2024
The only chance of Podencos in the Canary Islands is to be adopted on mainland Europe. The situation is desperate for them. Here’s one beauty hopeful.

‘Julia, still looking for her forever home

The pretty young podenca Julia was picked up on the street next to a gas station, probably abandoned and not wanted. She loves humans, trustworthy, playful according to her age – she is only 1 year old, kind very active and still needs to get to know many things of everyday life.

This cheerful dog who loves all dogs, is looking for an active family in a rural area, who will load her out accordingly and accompany her with a lot of joy, patience and security through her new beautiful life. A sovereign first dog wouldn’t be a problem but a larger pack shouldn’t be! A properly securely fenced garden is a basic requirement!

  • Arthritis in dogs – what is the best supplement?

There are many products on sale which claim to ease arthritis in dogs. Interesting article on the subject on this link.

However, from my own experience with dogs and horses, I have found Devil’s Claw to be the best. It is a natural ‘product’ which makes it even better. I use it in powder form sprinkled on food and purchase it from Equine Answers. I’ve recommended it to friends who have been pleased with the results on their own arthritic dogs.

  • More on the controversy of using e-collars on Podencos in the UK

Johlina pop pups electric collars 7 2024 400

Rescued Podencos rehomed in the Uk wearing E-Collars

This is beyond sad, and our greatest fear. The rescues in Spain save these Podencos that are abandoned or subjected to abuse .. They along with their vets supporters and volunteers invest time, significant amounts of money and love in preparing them to start a new life. In the belief they are going to a loving home where they will be safe from any future harm.

It came to the attention of the rescue responsible for the podenco on the right (who was only a few months old when adopted that it is wearing an e-collar. Through a post by a “dog trainer”.. That the only way to give the life a podenco needs which is able to run off lead and not hunt animals is by using electronic training aids, a polite way to call an ecollar that discharges an electrical shock to modify the dogs behaviour.
