Report from the SPCAI on the meeting in Madrid on 12th March 2014. As you can see, the podencos didn’t get a mention, as always!

Podenco Passe – always passed over – desperately needs foster and forever
This is an appeal for a foster or, even better, a forever home for Podenco Passe in Fuengirola, Spain. Maybe his name doesn’t help, he is ‘passed’ over in favour of other dogs in the shelter. Here’s his story.
He is in a kennel in Fuengarola, Costa Del Sol, Spain. Stacey from 4forpaws adoption took him in as he was being attacked by a Boxer Dog and got badly injured. But that was over 2 years ago and he has been in the kennel now ever since then. He is a lovely looking dog.

Terrie writes about these two beauties.
Please help me find homes for these 2 Deaf Podencas.. one is about 18 months and the other 2 years. Both are spayed and have the ‘all clear’ from the vet. I have more dogs to help.. these are ready to go to loving homes. Both are wanting affection ..
These girls.. Chica and Bowie were thrown away because they are deaf.. left to fend for themselves and were starving .. skin and bone and wild.. now they are loving and are looking for someone to help them through their quiet life.Contact Terrie here.

March – the month to remember Podencos – save the podencos!
Thank you to Catherine who translated this article for me.
March, the month to remember Podencos.
During the past month of February we were reminded of galgos, mainly because of the documentary film ‘Febrero. El Mierdo de los Galgos’. So I decided that March will be the month, I will devote to remembering their cousins the podencos and their crosses. Other dogs that suffer even more than galgos because they are also the forgotten ones. I did this last year with the post ‘They are not greyhounds, but podencos and are just as good companions’.

Canary Islands – tourist routes into the hills – spectacular scenery
For those of you who haven’t seen these before, two videos of ‘kennels’ where podencos are kept on Gran Canaria. Estimates are 85,000 podencos on these islands, most living in horrendous conditions on the breadline, disposed of in horrendous ways at the end of hunting in December each year.

Galgos 112 – saving lives in Spain
I’ve Internet translated the two very sad stories of Monk and Orion, now safe in the care of Galgos 112. You can see more photos of them on Galgos 112 website. Donate to their expensive veterinary treatment here.
Monk
Is a small hound, picked up at the beginning of February in Marchena (Seville) in very poor condition and with a fracture in his rear leg.
Since he had lost a lot of blood and was malnourished and dehydrated, that same day he entered the Lepanto vet Hospital emergency room, but because of the delicate state of health it wasn’t possible operate it until he was stronger.
