  • More on podenco brothers Camilo and Eloy – introducing a harness

    Camilo and Eloy 400 6 2021
    From Polly Mathewson

‘Dear Friends of our beautiful shy podenco brothers CAMILO & ELOY, if you have missed the boys do enjoy a little sit down to enjoy seeing what they have been up to this week.

Read on if you’d like more detailed news, but in any case please share their post all you can so their loving adoptive family can see them!! We know those wonderful people are out there SOMEWHERE, who will fall in love head over heals with our sweet two. Two absolute soulmate hounds in the making for you.

Our brave lads continue to do so well as they strive to get over their fear of humans and the terrible trauma of seven years spent invisible just existing – not living – within four sad walls. This week they had FOUR of their best friends to help them, and the particular focus has been to see how Eloy is doing on his pain medication for his severe spondylosis and to tentatively start the boys getting used to their harnesses. Once comfortable with a harness and lead their lives can start to get bigger. Fun in the countryside awaits!

  • Dog breeding in Spain today

    Dog breeders! 3 2021
Most of these are podencos for hunting. No idea whereabouts in Spain it is, hopefully it will be exposed but probably not stopped.

  • Head tremors in dogs

Sadlymmy beautiful young galgo Polar – dumped at the gates of Pepi’s Refuge, Pedrera at 2 months old with a bad knee injury – has been diagnosed with lymphoma. The disease is too far gone to respond to chemotherapy so he is on palliative care and getting lots of love cuddles. The cancer only manifested itself by two lumps suddenly appearing either side of his throat and within the week of the vet visit he has others on his body. He has also occasionally got head tremors, and this is a link to an article on the subject, if your dog occasionally suffers the same.

  • Podenca Freya and her babies – help needed with vet fees

This is beautiful podenca Freya with Galgo’s Rescue Almeria. The puppies are growing well and will soon need to start their vaccinations. The shelter has also taken in several rescue galgos who also need their pet passports starting.

GRA desperately need funds to pay for all these vaccinations and vet treatment. Please donate if you can.

  • Podenca Carly – happy Gotcha Day

    Bev Carley and PJ 400
Copied and pasted from Dave Inglis and Sandra Inglis post (Carly’s adoptants)

‘So the story starts in April 2019 when we were over at Podenco Friends on a “working holiday” with Beverley Farmer; the “working” I get (which Bev does day in day out), not so sure about the “holiday” part!!

A rescue comes in with a Podenco bitch and a small Galgo pup which she had been protecting on the streets, this was Carly and PJ (‘cause that’s what he was wearing, pyjamas!). We were immediately smitten with Carly, a dog who had gone through so much but still was the gentlest of souls, never demanding nor expecting much but gamely continued on with her various untreated damages and illness.

  • Bring Portuguese Podengos to Light – publicising these fabulous hounds

Just found this wonderful website publicising the plight of the Portuguese Podengos. They were originally used as ratters on the sailing ships.

Please give this lots of publicity.

  • Update on Podenco Brothers Camilo and Eloy

    From Polly Mathewson

Dear Friends, just a little hello to let you know how our heroes, podenco brothers ELOY & CAMILO are doing!

This is them with their lovely Christiane enjoying some home schooling before some running around time in the patio with their hound friends.

As you can see Eloy seems to be moving more comfortably, so we hope his pain medication is starting to help. Again thanks to everyone for your kindness and generosity and work with the recent wonderful Verein Windhundhilfe Malaga auction. The funds are helping to cover the boys’ ongoing vet needs now they sadly have their new spondylosis diagnosis. Eloy and Cami are learning “busca busca busca” to hunt for tasty treats under the cushion, and all the time getting more comfortable with human contact.

Also they are getting more comfortable as we are sneaking in more and more cosy things into their kennel. This is all practice for a proper home, but we think they like their new raised chill out zone. Thanks to Pilar trainer for this nice supermarket pallet recycling and pretty carpet.
