  • Abandoned podenco puppy – thank goodness for animal volunteers in Spain

This young couple, members of Patitas Por El Mundo Espana, with 2 small children were out driving to meet family for a New Year meal. Here’s the story.

‘When we left home to go eat with the family (because not even Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve nights have we been able to have dinner with them, for having a thousand animals to attend to and not be able to get home late for them), because I tell my boyfriend : “Which one will be the first of the year?”

Well, it didn’t take us long to find out, as always in Cartaya, little baby of about 6 months, skeletal, bones, with a lot of fear, she was coming bent down, with her tail between her legs and peeing out of fear…

Not right for an animal to get to this state… And while Cartaya’s aid promoting hunting and rehoming… In the end…It will happen as always, that once picked up no one cares about the animal or those who make the immense effort to rescue them.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – another new arrival escaping cruelty

    GRA podenco vet 400 1 12 2022
Galgos Rescue Almeria recently picked up this podenco at the vet. This boy wandered around in Pulpi looking for food and a place to sleep. He was chased away, kicked and pelted with stones, which understandably makes him very fearful and suspicious of people. That made him very anxious. Luckily, he was able to be caught and removed from this hostile environment.

Gabriel, this name is given to this angel, tested negative for the most common Mediterranean diseases. We’d like to thank Ana Ramos Sanchez for collecting Gabriel and bringing him to the clinic. Also a huge thanks to Helping Animals Almanzora helping support this gorgeous boy.

Our vet bills are still very high. Please donate if you can, either by paypal or the Go Fund Me link.

  • Seville – podenco starving on the street

    Carmina starving 2 400
Many years ago I need help to get a small galgo puppy from Pepis Refuge Pedrera and lovely Carmina Alvarez-Rea in Seville was able to help with a stopover for Polar to be picked up by the official transport. She recently appealed for someone to takes this poor starving podenco off the street.

Luckily she has now been taken to safety with the Seville Association ‘Speak for them Lebrja – Hablo por ellos Librija. This is a lucky podenca to be safe, so many are still abandoned and starving on the streets of Spain.

If you can help with vet expenses, they will be very grateful.

  • Galgos 112 – starving podenca in Castellon now safe

    Galgos 112 pod 1 400 11 2022
    From Galgos 112

‘On Sunday we received the notice of this podenca in very bad condition in a town of Castellón. Luckily Paula who saw her didn’t hesitate for a second to pick her up as soon as we said we’d take care of her. NALU, that we called her is admitted, she had a high fever and could barely eat, she has medication in her veins and after a couple of days her fever has gone down about tenfolds and she has eaten a little bit.

Waiting on results from all the tests that have been done on her.

Thank you so much Paula, thank you Jennifer for taking her in as soon as she recovers. And as always it’s our turn to ask for help to pay for her income and treatment. Without your contributions we cannot save lives. Thank you!

  • 2 new arrivals at Podenco Friends in Murcia

    Bev Rory 400 10 2022
From Bev Farmer – as ever, always there for the podencos.

Rory .. new arrival this week. A big Podenco Ibicenco that is pitifully thin and very frightened. He’s been in a perrera since
22nd September and the volunteers have managed to get him out for walks and spend some time with him.

He is about 2 years old and this photo does not reflect what poor condition he is in. Give him a couple of days to get over the transport then take him to our vets for tests health checks etc.

You see… there are people who claim Podencos don’t get abused … I say – look at this beautiful soul, what did he do so wrong to be treated so badly .. it will take months to get him back to good health.’

Also new to the shelter this week is Bimba…

  • Update on injured Podenco Wilf

Pleased to report that Wilf, the badly injured podenco left lying at the side of the road and rescued by the PINS organisation has now had his stitches out and is making a good recovery, although still on very limited exercise. And enough money was raised from the Kilt Walk to pay for his operation and for 4 more rescued podencos to have Pet Passports and vet/travel expenses to bring them to the UK for foster and homing. Thank you.
