WORK IN PROGRESS * PODENCOWORLD TENERIFE * ELY FROM “VIP” DOG TO DOG FOR ADOPTION!

Some poor podencos are so traumatised by their treatment at the hands of the hunters that it can take months and months of patient work to gain their trust in humans again. Ely is one such podenco with Podencoworld Gran Canaria.

‘Now the moment is finally there, Ely is ready for adoption! Maybe not with every family, of course he will remain a special soul with slightly longer instructions than dogs without a backpack, but we have decided unanimously that our dear Ely is ready for the next step!

Ely trusts people more and more and more and now just goes for a walk with new volunteers who are still strangers to him. It takes him a while to trust them, but it’s all good when he sees the belt. The curiosity and especially the will to live of this nice guy wins over the uncertainty more and faster and we really see him grow every day. He wants to so bad! With the right guidance, patience and home routine we think he will thrive very quickly. We really hope that he will get this opportunity with experienced people. He has come so far and wants so badly… he just deserves that chance!

Protectora de animales ARUME are appealing for a forever home for Podenco Truan – the ‘Eternal Forgotten’.

‘Truan is a wonderful dog, small size, very young, friendly, loving, sociable, good and grateful. But he was born Podenco, and only for that reason his chances of finding a home are reduced and they make him INVISIBLE.

There is the belief that “hunting” dogs do not “use” to live at home and that they do not adapt, nor are they happy if it is not hunting. And nothing is further from reality (we’re not talking about locking them in a flat but giving them a full life, with safe and quality exits. Any dog can be completely happy living in either a flat or a house with a farm or garden provided the time is given..)

There are more active dogs that enjoy going out to the mountain for a run, others are more of a blanket and couch. Well, the little ones gather all those qualities together!!! Perfect dogs, SUVs, that adapt to any family and enjoy both being out in the countryside and a warm nap in bed.

Nara is still in residence, no one has offered to take her in. It’s very cold there and they spend the day boring lying down. Nara is a young puppy, she is only one year old and she wants to play and walk freely, not spend the day alone in the cold and locked in.

She’s a little 11.5 kilos, she’s a beauty inside and out. With a loving character towards people, very noble and good. She gets along great with other dogs, active and playful.

Please a house for her until her forever family arrives, even if it’s only the cold months. This young girl has suffered enough and deserves a good home.

Tragic, older podencos who’ve been used for breeding now being dumped by their hunters in perreras for killing!! Heartless sub-humans! Luckily many perreras now don’t have a kill policy but associations are full to bursting too so these poor souls languish without hope. Flaky is a stunning podenco, completely invisible in the eyes of the world.

No one wants to “complicate” life by adopting an “escape” dog.. Flaky can NOT be let go, he might as well jump a wall.. We do not know his previous “life” and he is NOT afraid, but if he is very curious.

The great disgrace is to be born a Podenco in Spain. 5 long years waiting, hopefully Christmas is magical as they say.

Flaky is one of those podencos who spend years and years in a shelter and no one notices them despite being absolutely wonderful. The only thing he doesn’t tolerate is cats, otherwise he is affectionate, playful, sociable, teaches shy little ones to play, loves walks and children. He’s 6 and a half years old and has been waiting for more than 4 in our shelter after his previous mom died.

Will you help us give Flaky the life he deserves? He weighs only 10 or 12 kilos filled with LOVE

‘These are some of the pods currently in Paradise kennels, with whom we work closely. As we have so many dogs under our care both in Spain, in paid accommodation, and in foster in the UK, we can’t take on any further dogs specifically as “PINS dogs”. However, we can share some of the dogs who are in the same residencias as our dogs and are currently looking for homes.

PINS will be able to arrange the adoptions in the same way as always, however, we can’t bring these dogs over to foster, they need to go straight to forever homes, as we simply don’t have the funds to cover their prep and travel without an adoption fee to help offset the costs.

‘Has anyone ever seen ears as big as Mari’s? Podenca or bat, that’s the question.

Mari is a podenco maneto puppy, only 7 months old and weighs 6 stone, half of which match her ears. She is friendly and playful, a puppy love.
