  • Podenco Franco – can he make the Happy Bus in December?

    PINS Franco 400 11 2023
Podenco France is in a Spanish Shelter which Podencos In Need Scotland work with. Here’s what he says.

FRANCO. 5 YEARS OLD. SOCIABLE WITH ALL DOGS. NEEDS AN OFFER PRE DECEMBER.

‘Hey there! I’m Franco with a problem. My problem is that my sister Bandera, is leaving me. She got an offer of a forever home. The thing is, I love her and I’ll be so lost without her. She is travelling to the U.K. in December and I’m wondering if I could get someone to offer me a home, so that we can leave together. I’ll miss her terribly you see, I don’t know if my heart can take it. Can anyone give me a chance to get on the happy van with my sis?

I’m really easy, very sociable with dogs, a little timid because a hunter hurt me. All I need is love

  • Podencos – Lanzarote’s Noble Hounds

A lovely article written by a SARA rescue association volunteer and photographer.

The Canary Island podencos suffer horrendous treatment, sometimes dozens hidden away in the mountains out of sight and then abandoned when no longer of use for hunting. Their only hope of forever homes is on mainland Europe which is a costly and complicated procedure.

  • Podenca Airi hoping for a forever home

    GRA Airi 10 2023 400
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria.

‘Hello everyone my name is Airi and I am 2 years 9 months. As for most of my peers (hunting dogs), life in Spain is hard to bear. Working from morning to evening in service of our master, we often suffer from hunger, no or dirty water, a poor place to sleep, etc…..and when you are no longer useful you are dumped.

This happened to me too and I ended up on the street. I felt in a water tank but was able to escape my predicament on my own.

  • Podenco Mr Red – dumped as trash, he deserves a loving forever home

    From Sharon Bays

Please say a huge hello to Mr handsome RED – a completely adorable GOOFBALL despite it all!

Red is a podenco, estimate 2 years old.

    Mr Red 400 10 2023
Red has had an awful life. He was dumped on wasteland and left to fend for himself. He was spotted and rescuers tried to help him for 5 weeks!

Red was so afraid he just went into hiding, he was spotted around the same area many times. His body condition was very poor. He had to be caught or he would die.

Operation Red was put into place. Sedatives were added to food, Red was then watched from afar. He took the food, while he was asleep he was scooped up and was finally safe.
