    From Galgos Rescue Almeria
We’re happy to officially introduce you to Lio!
Recently Lio had an appointment with the vet for a general check-up. He received his identification microchip, European passport, and vaccinations. Blood was also taken to test him for the most common Mediterranean diseases. Fortunately, all test results were negative!
Lio is estimated to be around two years old and will remain small in size. He is a Podenco Andaluz, a special and beautiful breed.
A special thank-you to Helping Animals Almanzora for helping cover Lio’s medical expenses. Thanks to your support, he is getting the best possible start on his journey towards a beautiful future.
More news about Lio will follow soon!
  • ElPodenco by Podenco Friends – simply stunning

    No photo description available.

Over many years Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends has en able to catch stunning photos of her rescued podencos.  It is an amazing gift.

“Rescuing Podencos I discovered a love for photography.. plus living so remotely in the campo was such a great background to take photos.  I took this photograph from around 20 metres away. Chaz at the time was only 6 months old and stood so still, looking out across the valley, As I was looking through the camera lens, silently I thought, please don’t move.

For just a few seconds, everything was still… and I captured that special moment.
To see them free.  Perhaps remembering where they have been.  Perhaps wondering what lies beyond the horizon.  Or perhaps simply enjoying the freedom to stand still, breathe, and take it all in.

  • Valerian root as a calmer for dogs

I’m a great believer in natural remedies for my dogs and horses – apart from when they need antibiotics to kill bacteria!  So is valerian root a good natural remedy as a calmer for nervous dogs, or in special circumstances like thunderstorms and fireworks?

  • Salva un Podenco Gran Canaria – podenco rescue on Gran Canaria, Canary Islands

“Save a Podenco in Gran Canaria” is an animal shelter run by volunteers. Since 2017, we have been dedicated to the rescue, protection, and raising awareness about Podencos. Because they are used for hunting, Podencos are excluded from current animal protection laws, which makes it very difficult to help them.

We rescue them, find them foster homes, and prepare them to be happy; to have a family that lasts them a lifetime. (more…)

Great family dog.  She is 5 years old. Who will give Sammy a chance?

  • Podenca Princessa hoping for a forever home in her twilight years

    No photo description available.

Eleven years of loyalty… and now all Princesa wants is a warm bed and someone to love her.

This is Princesa, an 11-year-old Podenca who is searching for a loving retirement home. She is currently in the Valencia region of Spain.
At a time in her life when she deserved extra love and care, Princesa was signed over to Friends of Aprop after developing a health condition that is easily managed. Sadly, because she was no longer considered “useful,” her owner chose not to stand by her through her golden years, leaving the shelter to give her the care she deserves. (more…)
