Huesca perrera is, like all the rest in Spain, full to overflowing with abandoned dogs – pedigree dogs (4 English setters), puppies, beautiful xbreeds, alsations, labradors…and some podencos.
This is what the vet at Huesca says. ‘ I am Jose and I work in the kennel in Huesca, We try to find a family or people who sponsor the dogs we have, until they are adopted, so first of all thank your for your concern with the dogs because we need people who want to co-operate and help us.

‘I am looking for help for a Podenco who is currently in the SPA in Carcassonne. They are a breed very close to my heart since we rescued one from Spain two years ago, who had been very badly beaten, and we have managed to bring back her joy to live and we adore her – she will never leave us till her life is done!
I have too many rescue dogs here at home (12) to be able to help Snoop, the Podenco in Carcassonne SPA, but I’m desperate for him to find a foster home because he’s ill and needs help to recover.

This is Lara, a little Podenco Andaluz found abandoned and ill. She was rescued by an English couple who contacted SOS Animals. She’s now recovered and living happily in her forever home in the UK. These four are heading to the U.S. on April 2nd. They will land in New York and will be living in New England, New York, South Carolina and Missouri.
Transport April 2, 2012 – GRIN has facilitated the transport of these four lucky doggies..I say doggies as they are a combination of a Galgo and Podencos. Our volunteer, Marylou Hecht from New Hampshire, will be our flight patron for this trip as well as bringing back her boy Nando from Ibizen Hound Rescue who GRIN has the pleasure of working with for first time.
In October 2011 I received an appeal from Macu in Seville. She works hard to rescue mainly podencos from a gypsy enclave. One of the podencos was a big hair boy which she called Chaplin, a Podenco Campanero, the type used for hunting boar. I posted an appeal for someone to take Chaplin into their hearts and he was spotted by a PP reader, Norma, in Scotland. She is a volunteer with SOS Animals and had enlisted their agreement to Chaplin being taken under their wing.
Macu doesn’t speak English so initially Norma and I had a problem communicating with Macu, whereupon I enlisted the help of my friend Marisa, who acted as translator and mediator. A foster home was found for Chaplin and SOS Animals and Macu began the pocess of preparing him for entry into the UK. In February 2012 he travelled from Spain to the UK with Ruso, another podenco from Macu.

I can’t emphasise enough about the podencos on the Spanish Islands, Canary Islands and Ibiza. Their only hope of forever homes is on mainland Europe. Please don’t overlook these deserving hounds when you are thinking of taking a podenco into your home.

Milka is about 6 years old, a large podenco canario, and was found abandoned with her sistenr in the volcano on Lanzarote. She’s not much of a hunter, prefers to be with people, loving and obediante, walks without being on a lead. A fantastic hound for a companion dog. She is very good and happy
