Podenco Friends in Murcia – working for the podencos
Bev Farmer and Warren, Podenco Friends in Murcia are doing incredible work for the podencos. although they only planned on having a couple of dozen in foster, they now have over 40! Here’s an update of their recent achievements from Bev.
‘Something to celebrate, in the last two months we have rehomed 28 dogs 26 of them podencos. In addition we were able to include on our transport a Podenco for Galgos Del Sol and a Galgo for Scooby to America, assist with an adoption for a podenco for Irene Allan and re-home another locally.
14 transports to 6 different countries and it has taken some organizing, many thousands of Kilometers covered via road to get to the airports and then many thousands more with 5 flights over the Atlantic to the US and Canada, 5 flights leaving Alicante for Holland and Belgium and 4 seperate road transports.

Toledo podenco needs your help please…
Elena Alonso does tremendous work helping rescue abandoned podencos…she doesn’t often ask for financial help but she needs it this time. Here’s what she says.
‘She is Alba, a podenca found in Toledo, scared of people and starving. She is been rescued because she was in a bad situation in a hunters area. She is a year and her whole life she is been abandoned and mistreated.
Thank goodness I’ve found an excellent foster, Eva, who is going to help her recover.
This is the first time I ask for economic support for a case on my own but I have to pay 240 euros for vet expenses. -
Hound Sanctuary – help needed in Munich, Germany in August
Here we go – the full details of the appeal from Rain of Hound Sanctuary, desperately needing help.
We have three dogs from different locations in Spain who all need to fly out of Munich on the 24th of August. So here’s what we need:
1) Transport from Spain to Munich
2) Depending on when that transport is, they may also need a place to stay for a few days in Munich
3) Delivery to our flight escort in Munich Airport on the morning of 24th August for departureI need someone in Munich to hold 3 podencos for us for two to three days in August until my flight escort gets there to pick them up. We are flying from Munich on the morning of August 24th, on Lufthansa. My volunteer asks that I get the dogs to her at the airport that morning.

Who would do this to a podenco?
This is a story from Marie Stacey of Little Pod Association which came in on 20 June when I went on holiday. It has a sad beginning but it gets much better as the little podenco is making a good recovery.
‘This little boy is one of Faith and Merlin’s pups from December 2012 and was originally called Hugo. On Friday 20th June 2013 he was out on his morning walk with his mum and furbie brother when a car deliberately crossed over the road, mounted the pavement and ran him over. If there weren’t witnesses to this awful incident, I would never believe it. Unfortunately they were so shocked and concerned for Bod they did not get the van registration so not much hope of finding the driver. He is such a sweet, gentle little fellow who was loving his new life with his family. He has undergone surgery and is now doing well.

Pepis Dog Refuge – ways to help care for 80 dogs!
There are now about 80 dogs at Pepis Dog Refuge in Pedrera, Seville. Many of them have been there for months, often since being puppies and dumped at the gates. They are all adorable. Have a look at the wonderful new website on which some of the dogs are listed – you’ll see many are podenco or podenco x. It takes time to add them all, as you can imagine! 80 dogs also cost a lot to feed, so if you can’t offer a dog a forever home, please consider sponsoring one. Podencos in Apartments – Podencoworld Sweden comments
For many of us Brits, keeping a dog in an apartment (flat is our word) is not something we accept as much as the Europeans. Having said that, the apartment blocks I have been in in France and Spain are very different from a block of UK flats – they tend to be more spacious. One of my French friends lives in Paris with 5 dogs in her apartment, they get regular walks in the gardens around the block. Helen Portnoff of Podencoworld Sweden also lives in an apartment with 4 dogs. Here she explains.

You might have asked yourself if it is possible to live in an apartment with a Podenco? Answer: yes. We do, we live in a 3 room apartment but we walk them every four hours and they get to run “free” and play in the dog parc every day.

Surrounded by Podencos…adopt one
Another lovely rehoming story, from Janice Ball, who proves that podencos are addictive – you can’t have just one, you need more!
The story of how I came to own 4 Podencos is down to me joining facebook, until then I had never heard of a Podenco! I started to see them on various rescue sites and then I spotted Suzi who had been in kennels for over 2 years and no one had enquired about her, she really touched my heart strings and I just fell in love with her. I adopted her there and then and she came over in 2013. She has been with me now a year and she is the prettiest most loving dog ever who greets all her fellow brothers and sisters every morning with kisses and licks. She loves all people and dogs but is not too keen on cats or birds as she sees these as something to chase as she has almost certainly done a bit of hunting at some point in her past life in Spain.
