  • Grace and Dolly – Podencas in Murcia waiting for forever homes

Sherlie Bradley Grace 250 10 2014I had the pleasure of visiting Sherlie Bradley and all her gorgeous foster dogs in Tallante, Murcia, Spain- what a happy bunch. At the moment she has two lovely podencos desperately wanting their forever homes. Here’s their details.

Meet Grace, she was found by my Spanish neighbour while he was out hunting and I really thought he was going to keep her for hunting. Instead he put her on a chain but she kept getting tangled round a tree and table. I went round 4 times to untangle her, (he doesn’t live there). Finally I told him something needed to be done as she was tangling in the tree etc and he said did I want her, didn’t need asking twice…

  • Last Hope Dog Rescue – helping abandoned pregnant momma podenca

Snow White Jaen 190 10 2014In Jaen, Andalucia. This beautiful pod has given birth inside an abandoned building, which is in very bad condition. So she and her 5 puppies are in danger. A person is giving them food and water. The mummy is very scared. After an appeal on my Podenco Post facebook page, she is now being helped by the Last Hope Dog Rescue, but they desperately need donations to pay for food and vet care. Donate to lasthopedogrescue@outlook.com – also contact email. Mark it as ‘donation to Snow White’ – well named.

  • Adorable Podenco Pup Heidi – waiting for her forever family

Betty Heidi 190Heidi is an adorable young podenco pup from Spain who has been in France for 4 months now, where she is in foster with Betty, who describes her character.

She is a bundle of joy and happiness, full of energy. She loves to play all day with the other foster dogs Kai (Bodeguero 2 years) and Rosa (galga 2 years). Therefore she needs a home with another playful dog. She also loves to run and needs a fenced garden. She can jump quite high so the fence must be at least 1,50m.

She loves her cuddles and to sleep next to you. She is very intelligent and needs mental challenges (dog games, agility, obedience). Due to her background she is shy towards people she doesn’t know and therefore the family that adopts her must have patience with her.

  • The miracle of life –

Podenca Zarita was rescued and had her babies at Podenco Friends. One of them was born with inverted hind legs.4 weeks later this happened. Lovely video of an amazing pup.

My galgo pup Polar moved similarly when he was dumped at Pepis Dog Refuge at 2 months old. On the advice of 5 specialist vets, he was not operated on. Now at 18 months old he runs as fast as his galgo housemates – just one hind leg is shorter than the other legs because the kneecap is missing. Hopefully this little pup will make a similar recovery.

  • The Bastard of Bullas, Spain – video of second rescue –

Further report on the second Bullas rescue earlier this year. Owner and perpetrator of all this cruelty is the creature in the white hat and moustache (I won’t call him human!), taken away by the Guardia Civil, denounced and to be prosecuted. The animals are in the care of Scooby, the goats remained on the site looked after by a great young man who is doing a wonderful job (there was nowhere else to take them at short notice).

Please remember Scooby can’t do all this without your help – they rely on donations for feed and vet fees etc. and eventually adoption of the animals.
