‘When a Podenco is no longer “useful,” this is what happens…

Pia is only 4 months old, weighs less than 3 kilos yet life has already been unbearably tough for her. She spent several weeks hidden away in a perrera, a frightening place for any puppy. Thankfully, a Spanish rescue stepped in and gave her a chance.

But Pia’s struggles didn’t end there. She was born with luxation of both patellas and will need surgery to walk and live comfortably. Most likely, this is why she was cruelly abandoned. On top of that, she is battling giardia, a parasite that can be life-threatening for a puppy if left untreated.

The good news is that Pia is now safe in foster care with Luisa Grajales receiving the treatment and love she so desperately needs. Despite everything, Pia is a wonderfully happy little soul who adores people.

Sadly, this is a typical story in Spain—when a podenco is no longer “useful,” they are discarded, leaving others to carry the emotional and financial burden.

We’ll keep you updated on Pia’s journey and share any fundraising efforts to help cover her surgery.

Please share Pia’s story to help raise awareness for her and for all the Podencos who need the world to see them.
