German tourists found 12 podencos malnourished and in a critical condition in Los Realejos whilst walking between Palo Blanco and Las Llanadas
A new case of alleged animal abuse has jumped on the island, this time in Los Realejos. A group of German tourists who were on a walk between Palo Blanco and Las Llanadas found last week a dozen podencos in a critical situation. According to close sources, most of them had no water, some bleeding, and all were malnourished and completely skeletal.
Due to the state of the dogs, they filed a denuncia before a judged of guard and also came to the service of protection of the nature (Seprona) of the Guard Civil, that now will investigate the origin of those corpses.
“It was a tremendous hell;” incredible”regrets one of the neighbours who came to the area after the announcement of the German visitors. He explains that almost all the podencos were caged and tied up, surrounded by their own excrement and dirt-filled metal as feeders only trays. Three also had tumors, while all 12 were skin and bones. The location: a construction of steel and iron sticks hidden in a Bush and 50 metres from the road that passes by the mountain.
However, when the Seprona attended the site two days after the submission of the complaint, this Saturday, the dogs had disappeared. This neighbour supposed that the owners of the animals arrived after “a tip-off” but, as four of the 12 had chips. It is left to the Guardia Civil to analyse the bones found there.
