• Young podenca hoping for a forever home

    Nara 2 400
This gorgeous young podenco is with an association I haven’t heard of before. So here’s the story of the podenco and links to the association in Seville.

Asociación LASA, La Sonrisa Animal de Brenes, Sevilla

Nara is still in residence, no one has offered to take her in. It’s very cold there and they spend the day boring lying down. Nara is a young puppy, she is only one year old and she wants to play and walk freely, not spend the day alone in the cold and locked in.

She’s a little 11.5 kilos, she’s a beauty inside and out. With a loving character towards people, very noble and good. She gets along great with other dogs, active and playful.

Please a house for her until her forever family arrives, even if it’s only the cold months. This young girl has suffered enough and deserves a good home.

  • Abandoned podenco puppy – thank goodness for animal volunteers in Spain

This young couple, members of Patitas Por El Mundo Espana, with 2 small children were out driving to meet family for a New Year meal. Here’s the story.

‘When we left home to go eat with the family (because not even Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve nights have we been able to have dinner with them, for having a thousand animals to attend to and not be able to get home late for them), because I tell my boyfriend : “Which one will be the first of the year?”

Well, it didn’t take us long to find out, as always in Cartaya, little baby of about 6 months, skeletal, bones, with a lot of fear, she was coming bent down, with her tail between her legs and peeing out of fear…

Not right for an animal to get to this state… And while Cartaya’s aid promoting hunting and rehoming… In the end…It will happen as always, that once picked up no one cares about the animal or those who make the immense effort to rescue them.

  • End of hunting coming up – podencas being dumped in perreras

    Bandera in perrera Valencia 400 1 2023
Tragic, older podencos who’ve been used for breeding now being dumped by their hunters in perreras for killing!! Heartless sub-humans! Luckily many perreras now don’t have a kill policy but associations are full to bursting too so these poor souls languish without hope. This is one such podenca – if you can help, message me and I will contact the lady publicising her, Jolina Behle.

‘BANDERA, Podenca, 12 years old, was brought to Perrera to die by her hunter … what is there to say… there are no words but ….. maybe she still has a chance. She’s medium-sized and socially tolerant. Who wants to adopt her or which shelter wants to take her in and help her find a warm place? One that she never had in her life. She is in a Perrera in the province of Valencia. PLEASE SHARE Joline Behle’

  • Cloudy eyes in dogs

    Bo face 1 400
Our blind podenco Bo(celli) has cloudy eyes which the vet puts down to an eye infection which wasn’t treated. Well, we can believe that of Spanish hunters, can’t we – why pay vet fees on a dog when they can just go out and get another! He is amazing in the way he finds his way around, he can see shadows, looks at us as we approach him, and just this last week he’s ventured from the kitchen along the short hallway into the lounge to spend the evening asleep on the hearth rug with Rosie.

This link takes you to an interesting article on the subject of cloudy eyes in dogs.

  • Podenco – left by the hunters to starve on the streets

    Starving podenco in Madrid 400 12 2022
Heartbreaking that the damned Spanish Government still won’t take steps to prosecute this cruelty by the Spanish hunters, because too many of them are hunters themselves! Grrrr!

This appeal is from a volunteer with no room to take the poor boy. So many Spanish volunteers live in apartments in towns and however much they want to, they simply don’t have the room to take in more dogs than they already have.

This podenco is still on the street in a pitiful stage with the chip cut out, which is badly infected. He’s suffering and it’s very cole and I’ve nowhere to put him. Urgent help please, he is small/medium, only 12kg in this starving state, and young.
Madrid or Toledo areas. (Spain 0034) 628770887 or WhatsApp ask for IBAI

He’s one of many discarded as hunting draws to a close at the end of this month.

  • Thank you from Galgos Rescue Almeria

A thank you from Sandy Galgoslover

‘Galgo’s Rescue Almeria is feeling grateful.

    2022 Was an eventful year.

Our dogs have been able to count on help and support from our long-standing partners and also from a number of new organisations we have recently started working with. Not only financially but also in finding new homes. Several people who were on holiday or passing through Spain also came to visit our Rescue center and gave a dog a new warm loving home.

Thanks to Greyhounds in Need we were able to have new sleeping boxes installed with a sunshade, so that we can give an extra 12 dogs a cozy place to sleep. Thanks to Stichting Wereldhonden we were also able to fence a big running area.

The year 2022 was also a year where we faced the most severe form of neglect so far in the 5 years that we have been trying to make a difference. As many as 120 animals were given the chance for a new future after the horror, 11 of them were housed at GRA. For Eden & Sofia, help came not a day too soon.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – another new arrival escaping cruelty

    GRA podenco vet 400 1 12 2022
Galgos Rescue Almeria recently picked up this podenco at the vet. This boy wandered around in Pulpi looking for food and a place to sleep. He was chased away, kicked and pelted with stones, which understandably makes him very fearful and suspicious of people. That made him very anxious. Luckily, he was able to be caught and removed from this hostile environment.

Gabriel, this name is given to this angel, tested negative for the most common Mediterranean diseases. We’d like to thank Ana Ramos Sanchez for collecting Gabriel and bringing him to the clinic. Also a huge thanks to Helping Animals Almanzora helping support this gorgeous boy.

Our vet bills are still very high. Please donate if you can, either by paypal or the Go Fund Me link.

From the amazing pen of Nellie Doodles.

Kind words are like sugar, the more you put in, the sweeter the day.
    Be kind, always.’

  • Podenco Rory with Podenco Friends – coming to terms with a world of kindness

    Bev Rory 400 12 2022
    From Bev Farmer recently.

‘This was Rory..I couldn’t find him and thought ‘no he’s escaped’ but he had curled up in a corner trying to hide. Dogs aren’t born like this, relentless abuse is the reason why.

He doesn’t understand he is safe now, all he knows that people are cruel. His coping mechanism is to make himself invisible to avoid been hurt.

I want to wrap my arms around him and say it’s ok Rory but that is last thing to do to him.

For now I need to respect his personal space .. He just needs time’.
