• Podenca kicked and abused and bleeding – safe with Galgos Rescue Almeria

    GRA abused podenco 400 17 3 2023
    From Galgos Rescue Almeria

Last Wednesday evening, a Podenco was brought to the vet in extremely worrying condition. At first it was thought she was the victim of a collision. After further examination, her injuries appear to have been caused rather by severe abuse, kicked and beaten before she was hit.

Her condition was critical, she lost a lot of blood, not only at the fracture of her hind leg. Her body also showed numerous minor and major injuries. In A&E, blood came out of her nose and mouth, it was anxious to see how it was going to evolve.

Although she hasn’t microchip, (what a surprise!) the important thing is that she’s safe and will get the necessary care and treatment to recover. We have given this beautiful girl the name Tracy.

Thursday morning we went to visit her, her condition has now stabilised. Eating is also going much better and she is trying to take some steps. According to the vet, she is ready to come to our shelter where she can recover from her nasty adventure.

This week she will go to the traumatologist for X-rays of the fracture. When she is sufficiently strengthened, the surgery on her hind leg can be done.

Please help with these vet fees, and you can support our dogs for 1€ a month by joining our teaming group.

  • 4 Podencos dumped in a perrera – the ‘detritus of Spanish hunting’

    Podenco in perrera 400 1 14 3 2023
    From Huellas Eternas

In Spain you realize that no matter the time, no matter the “service” you have done, no matter that despite having delivered your whole life to the hunter, he doesn’t care what happens to you because of course, the new legal abandonment modality does not protect you, so here comes the perrera.

These are 4 beautiful podencas are 8 and 12 years old, their owner has given them to the facility because they are no longer going to hunt, so at their ages they are already well there and continue life….. but the 4 of them stands behind those bars….

Beacuse they are older, is it going to make it very difficult for them to be adopted? This is the big question that we are asking ourselves, with great pity and powerlessness, because cases like this break your heart even more if it fits.

We ask for adoption for them, we ask that they do not become invisible, we ask that their lives begin again from the warmth of a home and the love of a family that will love them for the rest of their lives.

  • Podenco Lucas waiting for his forever with Ourense Protectora

    Ourense Grandpa Lucas 400 14 3 2023
    The Podencos, the great FORGOTTEN

Grandpa LUCAS’s feet hurt so much. He’s an angel who’s slowly turning OFF….

Grandpa Lucas at 10-years-old is one of the oldest angels of the protege and of the most needy. They say he has green EYES that just looking at you captivate you, the volunteer tells me that when they go out for a walk only once a week when they return she has to hold him in their arms like a baby because he doesn’t want to go in the CAGE.

    Contact: Progape Ourense (Galicia)… progapeourense@hotmail.com Tel: 988 21 29 39

Lucas was one of the family and then when the owner moved to an apartment, Lucas was not in his plans, as happens too often.

Grandpa Lucas spent a long time without eating, ALWAYS waited for his “Family”… But this one NEVER came back for him…… Time passes and Lucas understood that his owner would never come back for him.

  • A dog is adopted for its whole life – not abandoned!

Moving need to rehome my dog 400
Too many people use the excuse of not being able to take their dog when they move. It’s an excuse especially used a lot in Portugal. It should be a last resort that the dog is taken to a shelter.

Penalties of up to 45,000 euros for very serious cases of animal cruelty

Breeding and sale of pets restricted to authorised professionals.

    Petition 400 2 2023
This petition is launched by associations of lawyers specializing in animal rights, to request a veto in the Senate to withdraw the reform of the Spanish Penal Code.

According to the decision of February 9th, 2023, galgos, podencos and all Spanish hunting, guard, companion and herding dogs are excluded from the new animal protection law and the abuse of the dogs is largely unpunished.

  • Podenco Alex – friends with cats too

    Alex 400 2 2023
    From Rosaly Torvnes.

Alex is a very sweet, fun, affectionate and happy dog. He´s ONE year old, 12 kg and 48cms tall. He arrived at the shelter on October 2022. The shelter was informed that there was an abandoned dog who was going frequently to a bar nearby, everyday, and looking for food.

Alex goes well with other dogs, but has a certain mild dominance with other MALE dogs. Still, he´s a very sociable dog!

Alex is friendly with children, walks well on a lead and travels just fine in cars. Not good with cats.

Alex seems to be a small version of a mix between galgoxpodenco. His looks are exquisitely beautiful. Alex is waiting for a home!

    Alex is in Cartagena, Murcia.
