  • Blue Merle Podenco Billy searching for his forever home

    A beautiful unusual blue merle podenco boy really needs his forever home. Here’s his story.

    ‘Billy is a very unusual ‘blue merle’ podenco dog, approximately 16 months old. He is 20 inches high (from floor to withers) and from tip of nose to end of tail he is 42 inches. We are not sure on weight as we do not have scales (but is regular podenco size if that helps at all).

    He is a rescue dog and was originally rescued by CAS when found on the Rio Seco in Nerja Jan/Feb 2012. He has been in his current home since March 2012 and has come on in leaps and bounds since then. He now understands basic commands (Sit, Wait, Down, Out, Paw), and is very willing to learn more.

  • Hellin perrera – two podencos waiting to be murdered

    Hellin perrera 3 250 3 2013Lina Orta is one of a group of volunteers who help the dogs that the town council worker takes to Hellin perrera to be killed. There are two podencos in now, waiting to be sacrificed. Their names are Chispo and Rubius.

    A message from Anke and Dominique and the team working to save podencos from Valencia perrera. Thanks to donations, many from you lovely readers, the starving young podenca is saved and will go into foster in Malaga, and also the two podencos in a cage (on CESE) who will also go into foster, but a sponsor is needed for 30 euros/month to pay for their food.     Urgent appeal from Mercedes in Seville.

    ‘Hello. I need urgent help! I found this puppy podenco at the door of my work and it was terrified. I work in a place where there is a very dangerous road to the side, and I knew that leaving it there, it was only a matter of time before it would be injured. So, just in case the same day, I tied it next to my car. The poor dog was that be there for eight hours until I got out of work and took it home.

  • Valencia perrera – malnourished young podenco needs you – saved!

For rescue by a Spanish association, contact Dominique, for donations to save and place in kennels for onward foster and adoption outside Spain, contact Anke. Do not contact the perrera direct. Maybe two or three friends could join together to save and sponsor it. You marvellous people have already saved many.

  • Cheap accommodation in Tenerife, Canary Islands – food and drinks not included

    The first one is about 12 podencos living in appalling conditions on a farm in San Roque, Tenerife. The foundation Animal Help Canarias reported the poor state of the hounds on a finca. The way the animals are crammed in the back of a private estate, continuously chained without any room to move. The precarious facilities do not meet the necessary hygiene and dogs have “not even enough food or water,” said a spokesman for the foundation. “Neighbors often call these situations to denounce”.

  • Podenca Chokla – respecter of cats!

    ‘In 1990 I had already 2 Podencos, only the situation was completely different from my current one.

    I was living in a very small village, my first neighbour was a 15 minutes walk away so, as you can imagine, I had a lot of meadow myself and a lot ofland nearby.

    My husband didn’t like the dogs into our home……yes a big shame……… so the dogs lived in their own house, (with central heating!), there were six all together:

  • Podenca on the streets of Granada – Urgent – anyone room for her?

    Granada podenca 190 2 2013This is a female podenca living on the streets of Loja, Granada. She had a companion, a labrador, but someone has taken him and he is now in kennels. But the podenco is so afraid that she has not been caught. Next weekend she is going to be darted but after that there is nowhere for her to go.   • Podenco pup found in garbage bin in Murcia

    Murcia pod pup in garbage 200 2 2013This poor little soul was found in a rubbish bin. A man heard a groan, looked and there was this little podenco puppy – more dead than alive. Luckily he rushed it to a vet who immediately put it on CPR and a drip, surrounded it with plastic bottles filled with warm water…last report is that it is still alive.
