There are currently half a dozen young beautiful podencos in Valencia perrera, two are particularly striking – one white one, one black, very stressed out. Please, if you can help get them out, contact for fostering or adopting in Spain adoptadelaperrera@gmail.com
For pension or adopting through an Both Dominique and Anke speak excellent English
Sorry I can’t post photos as am currently in the UK and working from a library computer. For those on Facebook, you can see pix on Help the Podencos
I’m in the UK at the moment for a funeral, not much access to the Internet, so a bit behind with posts.

From Ana Maria Martinez Martinez. In a village in Jaén there are several podencos shot by hunters since it is a hunting area. People take the garbage and rubbish, but not dogs! They will be killed shortly if we can’t get them out – volunteers, fosterers, shelters. Anyone who can help me, please contact: anammm19971@yahoo.es
From Bev. Angela’s health is not good, she has kidney failure along with other problems. She’s on a lot of medication to support her kidneys. The only other option is a catheter and dialysis but this is painful and invasive and I have done this before without success. So we are doing the best we can to help her, time will tell.
If I could my hands on the person who did this I think this time I wouldn’t be reserved. On a positive note Angela appears to be in good spirits so we must be hopeful of a good outcome
I have received the following appeal. A podenco, microchipped and registered in Spain, has ended up on death row in a French dog pound. The person sending the information from Spain has STUPIDLY not put where the dogs is!!! Please see the original appeal. If anyone can find out where it is and save it, please do. I have circulated several French rescue associations.
Update from Bev Farmer, who saved Angela from being killed last week.
Angela had a good first night her blood tests confirm she is positive for ehrlichria but negative for Leishmania, filaria and babesia. She has a severe ear infection, and this has caused irreparable damage to one of her ears. Angela weighs 13 kilos and should be about 20 kilos the photos don’t really reflect how thin she is. She has longer hair but when I bathed her last night I could feel every individual rib and vertebra in her back.
Little podenca suffering from terrible dermatitis, here’s what the volunteer says.
‘We’ve called her Maya. Found in a park in Seville. The person who found her cannot have her in her home and our refuge is saturated. We will have to put her in a kennels rather than put her back on the street. Please can anyone help with either a foster home or space in another refuge?’
Contact urgently monicasilvan@hotmail.com or Carmina speaks English.
Update on podenca Leira in Madrid. Thank you Kathryn for tracking it down.
‘The girls of the association took out the little podenco Txari, and they reserved Leire to take her out next Wednesday! So they are not going to be killed!’
Contact Ariadna for more info, she speaks some English.
El Paraiso is a perrera in Murcia, Spain. A volunteer went there today to try and rescue a pregnant podenca. Remember, Easter weekend looms and the staff in the perreras are busy mass killing dogs, to the staff can go on holiday! This is what Jacqui has written about her visit.
Jacqui was trying to save the pregnant podencos today – HOW THE HELL IS THIS LEGAL?
