  • Tango – the perfect dog waiting for ever for his forever home

KennelKlub Tango 250 6 4 2015TANGO is an incredible dog waiting for a home. He has been waiting patiently for 6 months. Not only is he super handsome he has a fabulous personality. He is extra specially cuddly, intelligent and obedient.

He has done a 6 week basic training course and surprised us all at how well he did! Whoever adopts Tango will be very lucky indeed! He is around 5 years old and a Podenco/Galgo cross. He is in Lanzarote but transport can be arranged for the right home.

Fabulous video of the lovely TANGO at training classes. He is doing so well and we are SUPER proud of him! This gorgeous Podenco/Galgo cross is a great dog, attentive, obedient and always eager to please. He is a cuddle monster!

  • Insuring your podenco – share your experience

On a recent post on my Podenco Post facebook page, a question was asked for help with insuring a podenco in the UK. Below I have posted the thread of the conversation. If any of you have experience which you can share, please do. (Each paragraph is a comment by a different person).

‘Some breed assistance with insurance please. Hope a Spanish Podenco three year old came from mainland Spain. Tesco pet insurance is classed as an Ibizan hound cost £12 month. Theo a Podenco Canario from Lanzarote, they want to class as a Cirneco dell’Etna same age cost £27 a month. They are now looking into matters but I suspect many of you are far more knowledgeable with the breed so any help you can give will be appreciated and any info on who you use to insure your poddies?

  • The Invisibles – every home should have one!

Bebe and galgos 250I’ve been writing and publicising about the podencos for several years, since I started helping a French rescue association bring galgos and podencos from Spain to France for rehoming. I’ve fostered many and helped rehome them too, plus adopted one of my own, seen here with my galgos.

In general the galgos get more publicity because of the huge numbers abandoned every year, especially hung in the olive groves. But life in Spain for the podencos was and still is no different, just not in quite such huge numbers. And life for the podencos on the Spanish islands got and gets very little publicity atall. Which is why I have worked to help them too.

The podencos used to be called ‘The Great Forgotten’ but in the last couple of years there has been an ‘explosion’ of interest in podencos, mostly through publicity on facebook.

  • SARA Lanzarote – saving the podencos in the Canary Islands

SARA Janubio 170 12 2013To animals, every day is the same, there are no fete days, bank holidays, Easter, Christmas. Their main concern is a warm bed, food and fresh water, and caring hands. Many people will have whizzed off to the Canary Islands for Christmas in the sun – spare a thought for all the volunteers working to look after all the abandoned and rescued dogs – specially the podencos – most of whom will spend their lives in a refuge unless they are adopted abroad.

Sara Protectora on Lanzarote has over 150 dogs and 70 cats. Read more about their work here – click on the Union Jack for the english pages. More on their work here and a photo album

  • Life for the podencos of mainland Spain, Canary Islands and Balearic Islands

A video exposing the truth about life for the podenco born into a hunting home on mainland Spain, or on one of the Canary Islands or Balearic Islands such as Ibiza. Upsetting photos but please do not turn away – remember that each and every one of these podencos has suffered so much more – and most of them have been saved. Thank you PodencoWorld.

  • Canary Islands, SARA Protectora – help the hounds on the Spanish Islands

SARA Milka 190 3 2012I can’t emphasise enough about the podencos on the Spanish Islands, Canary Islands and Ibiza. Their only hope of forever homes is on mainland Europe. Please don’t overlook these deserving hounds when you are thinking of taking a podenco into your home.

These two beauties are in the care of SARA Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.

Milka is about 6 years old, a large podenco canario, and was found abandoned with her sistenr in the volcano on Lanzarote. She’s not much of a hunter, prefers to be with people, loving and obediante, walks without being on a lead. A fantastic hound for a companion dog. She is very good and happy
