  • Albacete perrera, Spain – over 200 dogs due to be pts now!

Albacete per Golfus 2 yrs 250Last week I posted a comment from a volunteer in Spain, that many perreras kill ALL the dogs in August, because they want to close down completely for the holidays. Well, Albacete Perrera is going to do just that. Over 200 dogs are due to be pts any time now! Several of them are beautiful young podencos.

L’Europe des Levriers is the French association with whom I have travelled to Spain on many rescue missions. One of the refuges they work with is in Albacete. But they can’t cope with this massive programme of euthanasia.

If there any associations who can help with taking any of the podencos, please contact Alicia on edl.alicia@gmail.com

  • Podenco Julian – from Spain to America forever

Julian GRIN 190 5 2012Another happy ending for a deserving podenco. Bon Voyage Julian.

‘This little fellow is Julian the Podenco. Last October a Canadian lady named Robin Waldman visited two shelters in Spain. One was suggested by GRIN, near Sevilla, called FBM (Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert). Robin volunteered there and soon met a galgo named Iker that she decided would come back home with her in the Spring.

In the meantime she also met a Podenco named Julian who also won her heart. He had been waiting for so long, no one asked for him.

  • A bird’s eye view on Spain , animals and owners!

Prohitited_to_Abandon_250 PosterI’ve received the following article which is quite thought provoking.

Spain is a country which is on now its knees. It’s gone from dictatorship to good presidency and bringing a country up on form and being recognised as a good place to be. From there, the previous government to the current one, the latter was voted in December 2011, brought bad practices into its own when they took over. The country became run down, the people suffer, but as always, the politicians walk away with clean hands and a tidy pension until death. To compound the negative results of that government’s actions, Spain was hit with the Global crisis.
