  • Duathlon, 19th March 2016, Clumber Park, Nottingham – Sponsor Team Pepis

Anca podenca blind 250 8 2015Pepis Dog Refuge in Pedrera, Seville, has an outstanding vet bill so far of nearly 4,000 euros! That includes sterilization of dogs (the first thing to be done with the arrival of each new dog, to prevent unwanted puppies), vaccinations, dogs needing operations, medication…the list is endless.

It’s desperate that this bill is cleared and to that end Ellen Stevens and 2 friends have entered the team event in the Duathlon at Clumber Park, Nottingham, on 19th March 2016. If you look on the Youcaring link below, you can read all about it.

Please sponsor Team Pepis and share widely with family and friends. Let’s raise the total and more if possible. Help Jane and Alan Brian help dogs like blind podenca Anca, in this photo.

  • Victims of the thunderstorms hitting southern Spain – seeking refuge at Pepis

Galga podenco pod 250 1 11 2015This little podenca was found sheltering from the thunderstorms at the gates of Pepis Dog Refuge, along with the galga. Both cold and wet, Jane and Alan took them in, dried them off and settled them for the night. The hunter had cut the chip out of the galga’s neck before dumping her.

Both hounds need vet checking, vaccinations etc as well as feeding, just 2 more to add to the 70+ dogs at the refuge. Please help feed them, every penny/euro/dollar goes to he dogs. Donate to pepis.dogrefuge@hotmail.co.uk.

And to make matters worse, the torrential rain has meant that the 4×4 cannot make it up the drive to the Galgo centre and Jane and Alan’s mobile home. So Alan has to drag the gas bottle up!

  • Pepis Dog Refuge – ways to help care for 80 dogs!

There are now about 80 dogs at Pepis Dog Refuge in Pedrera, Seville. Many of them have been there for months, often since being puppies and dumped at the gates. They are all adorable. Have a look at the wonderful new website on which some of the dogs are listed – you’ll see many are podenco or podenco x. It takes time to add them all, as you can imagine! 80 dogs also cost a lot to feed, so if you can’t offer a dog a forever home, please consider sponsoring one. You’ll find details under ‘Ways to Help‘.

  • Spanish hunters – no respect for property or life

Hunters 250 1 27 11 2013THE HUNTERS. Taken by Jane and Alan Brian, Pepis Dog Refuge, Pedrera, Seville.

‘We took this picture to show how close and dangerous these men are. The picture shows how close he was to our house, and he fired his shotgun next to the dog pens. The other hunter at the top of the hill, behind our house, we saw him shoot his gun towards the house, at a rabbit running, most hunters locally, respect that this is our home, but out of town hunters, just do what they want, and that’s to kill……’

Pity the podencos with him, what will he do with them when hunting ends…

  • Podenco Andaluz Solo – seeking his forever home and family

Bev Solo 1 250 7 2013Introducing handsome podenco Solo, who is with Bev Farmer. He’s desperate for a family and a loving home to call his own for the rest of his life. Can you find a place for him? Bev Farmer describes his character.

‘This is Solo he has been at Pepis Refuge since he first wandered into their gates as a puppy back in 2008.

For some reason no one has shown any interest in him, it’s such a shame that he has not had a family of his own for 5 years.

To help out Solo has come to us and he is a super Podenco very friendly loves to play with the other dogs very quick to learn and wants to please. He is a really affectionate dog and not a loner and at night time he sits on Warre’sn lap while Warren’s drinking a beer or two.

I think he will be brilliant at agility and we will start with some training with him. He has his passport up to date vaccinations, blood tested and negative and is castrated. Thank you to Beryl who sponsored Solo and organised for him to travel to us.

To adopt Solo please email me; podencofriends@hotmail.co.uk
