And Nika – still desperate for a foster home to convalesce. Please can someone take him to nurse him back to health. I’m putting this appeal out again, even though a friend of mine contacted SVPAP initially and offered to take him, She was told he was sorted out, and has now taken on another injured podenco to rehabilitate. This is a contact who speaks English, if anyone reading can help Nika. jharmu@hotmail.com
SVPSP have serious financial problems and are in danger of being closed down, which means about 500 animals in their care would lose their security of an association, Nika included. They have an appeal for help on Facebook, I’ve just made a donation. Let’s all try and help them by getting Nika in a foster home.
At the other end of the spectrum from the puppy, this 11 year old podenca was rescued injured from the middle of a motorway in Murcia! She has ben seen by a vet, has a problem on one of her front legs, and a problem in her mouth, which prevented her eating. She has been blood tested and is negative for diseases, but she is currently being kept in a garage and needs a foster home where she can recover for adoption.
She is very quiet and doesn’t have a problem with other dogs. Being an older lady, she spends a lot of time sleeping!
Please contact maisatinto@hotmail.com if you can help.

Some years ago I met a small galga who was rehabilitated by Paul and April Carrier of Alpha Dog School, Rota, Cadiz – sadly victims of the recession. This galga had been confined to a small cage during her puppyhood to such an extent that she had curvature of the spine, resulting in a skippy walk – hence her name of Skippy. She was unsurprisingly a happy little galga in spite of her maltreatment as a puppy.
Here is another example of maltreatment, this time a little podenco. Here is the story of Nino, a small podenco found malnourished, abused and abandoned in Cadiz
