URGENT APPEAL for scalibor collars
Animal lovers the summer months are approaching and it’s very important to protect dogs from the sandfly that causes Leishmaniosis. Every year, unfortunately, too many dogs adopted from Spain die abroad due to ignorance, poor information, wrong diagnosis, not the right treatment… So preventing infection with the Leishmania parasite is very important. Contrary to what is often said, Leishmaniosis cannot be cured, in other words your dog will have it for the rest of his or her life. Fortunately, with proper treatment and medication, the infection can be kept under control. Regular blood tests are also recommended, that way your four-legged friend can also grow old like other dogs. We protect dogs during and before the summer months with a collar combined with a pippet. A vaccination is also possible, it’s quite expensive and studies have currently not been able to show whether this vaccination gives sufficient security. (more…)

Podenco Campanero Chaplin – a big softy looking for his forever family
This is Chaplin, a large curly-haired Campanero podenco in Seville. He was found in a bad state, with anaemia, ear, eye and skin infection, one ear deformed. He has also suffered burns. Luckily he was saved and treated by a vet, and has been in foster. But now he needs to find his forever family, or another foster home, as there are already too many dogs in the home.He is now well, a loving gentle boy, good with other dogs, desires nothing more than regular meals, kind caring hands, a comfy bed and company. Can you give this big boy his forever.

Podencos puppies rescued from death row – have you room in your heart for them?
Just received the most wonderful news. these two podenco puppies were in a killing station, but the Sofia El Refigio Escuela rescued them and here they are now, waiting for their forever homes. Just look at the different in these handsome hounds, away from the smell of death. This is what the shelter says.
‘The world’s most handsome hounds are Achilles and Hercules and are with us! We took them out of the killing station with their faces in shock, their bodies trembling and their eyes filled with dread.

Scooby Medina appeals for homes for beautiful podencos
This is a plea from Scooby Medina looking for foster and forever homes for these beautiful podencos. Here’s what Eva says. ‘The Refugio Abyda shelter in Jaen needs help. Scooby and I have been able to rescue 6-8 dogs in the last few months, but we are packed at the shelter, so I can’t take any more dogs into our shelter unless they already have a place to go. Please contact Scooby if you can help. These beauties so deserve to know love and comfort for the rest of their lives.
Kiko is podenco of about 5 years, measuring 56 cm and weighs 11 kg. He was very malnourished when found but is now in good health and should gain even a little weight. An art student found him abandoned on the street. He watched the dog for several days, scrabbling around the garbage bins. He was sorry for him and put him in a flat used as a studio for painting. Cordoba podenco, rescued, have you room for him?
This is a plea for help for a lovely podenco rescued from the streets of Cordoba, luckily before being injured on the roads. I know all the refuges are full to bursting, but if anyone can squeeze him in, please contact Carmen below. Here’s his story.
‘Hi I found this little guy in Cordoba, at a junction of roads at the entrance of the city … I asked around the area,no one knows ….. some do not even look at you, let along the animals! He stood in front of the car in the middle of the intersection and what should I do? Avoid it and leave it there, alone in the middle of the road? I have a weimaraner very possessive and jealous but I could not leave this podenco there to his fate … so I need your help. He is a podenco X, no one wants a X.
