  • Portuguese Podengo Thomas – with Many Tears Rescue, Wales

Many Tears Tom 190Here’s the story of Tom, a Portuguese Podengo x rescued and now with Many Tears Rescue in Wales. He’s looking for his forever family, along with another 9 Podencos – all in the UK in foster. June writes.

    ‘Learning to be loved:

With all your help we have been able to save a number of dogs that were all going to die on the streets of Portugal.

These dogs have been doing really well, some are now in permanent homes, whilst others are still awaiting their special day!

om made his way to my family. Tom is a happy go lucky kind of a guy, but even with his chirpy character and live life to the full attitude you can still see that his soul
bears scars of his former life! He truly believed that hands were a source of pain and something to be feared, he has been with me just under three weeks now and is just starting to understand that hands can make food and toys appear. If you moved too
swiftly he would whimper believing a smack was coming his way!

  • Portugal – podenca puppies saved from a cruel death

Portugal Lira 2 250 4 5 2013These two tiny podencas were found yesterday by a farmer. They were inside a rubbish bag, tied up, left in a field to die. Taken into the care of Teresa Sousa and her team, they have been to the vet and have been wormed. Now called Pipa and Lira. Teresa would be grateful to anyone who could sponsor their vaccinations and to apply to adopt one. Please paypal adoptions to portugaldogrescue@gmail.com (sorry the pix aren’t very good quality)

Regarding Esperança, the municipal vet, who is friends with Teresa, has issued Esperanca’s owner a fine (that’s the most he can do, as it was a first offence, at least legally), and the man is now appealing, claiming he is too poor and cannot afford the fine. Video Esperanca & babies, 7 in all.

  • Aanifeira in Portugal – saving a blind podenco

Aanifeira gaia- 200 7 10 2012We sometimes question the wisdom of spending valuable and scarce resources on saving very sick or injured animals but, given the choice, I’m sure we would all make the effort. How many lovely stories have we read about hounds saved – Esperanza, Alphonso, Ulysees, and now Miel. Here is a wonderful story about a blind podenco in Portugal, rescued sick, starving, injured and blind from a major road. Aanifeira gave her a chance – here’s her story.
