  • Podenco Andaluz Solo – seeking his forever home and family

Bev Solo 1 250 7 2013Introducing handsome podenco Solo, who is with Bev Farmer. He’s desperate for a family and a loving home to call his own for the rest of his life. Can you find a place for him? Bev Farmer describes his character.

‘This is Solo he has been at Pepis Refuge since he first wandered into their gates as a puppy back in 2008.

For some reason no one has shown any interest in him, it’s such a shame that he has not had a family of his own for 5 years.

To help out Solo has come to us and he is a super Podenco very friendly loves to play with the other dogs very quick to learn and wants to please. He is a really affectionate dog and not a loner and at night time he sits on Warre’sn lap while Warren’s drinking a beer or two.

I think he will be brilliant at agility and we will start with some training with him. He has his passport up to date vaccinations, blood tested and negative and is castrated. Thank you to Beryl who sponsored Solo and organised for him to travel to us.

To adopt Solo please email me; podencofriends@hotmail.co.uk

  • Training a Podenco – superb Obedience and Agility Dogs

Denzil 2 250I can’t emphasise enough what fabulous hounds podencos are; marvellous companion dogs and, if you get a young one, easy to train and marvellous agility dogs (they are very popular in agility competitions in Germany especially). Bev Farmer fosters podencos and works hard on training them for forever homes. Here’s a great video which illustrates just how well podencos respond to training.

Bev was one of the many volunteers who went to Bullas on Operation Rehala at the beginning of 2012 and here is what she says.

  • Podenco pup found in garbage bin in Murcia

Murcia pod pup in garbage 200 2 2013This poor little soul was found in a rubbish bin. A man heard a groan, looked and there was this little podenco puppy – more dead than alive. Luckily he rushed it to a vet who immediately put it on CPR and a drip, surrounded it with plastic bottles filled with warm water…last report is that it is still alive.

Poor podenco – an outcast in Spain! He’s in the care of Spaanse Honden Nood Belgium

  • Izzy Wizzy Isabella – Little podenca looking for her forever family

Bev Isabella head 1250 2013Here is Isabella, living at home with Bev Farmer and Warren. Bev says, ‘she wasn’t coping staying in the kennels. She is much brighter and content and we call her Iizzy Wizzy now she is so full of life and fun!

Isabella is one of our older girls at 6/7 years old. She has a large tattoo in her ear, an older form of identification than a microchip, showing that she belonged to a hunter with whom she spent her early years, and was then a long time in a shelter.

  • Beautiful Amelia – a x podenco/galgo waiting for her forever

Bev Amelia x pod 250 1 1 2013This is Amelia, one of the dogs that went to Bev Farmer in Murcia, from Sandra Baas at Villa del Rio, Cordoba.

Amelia is a Podenco/Glago cross, highly prized by the hunters. She has spent over a year in a shelter. I have no idea why she has not been adopted yet, as she is one of the sweetest loving obedient dogs I have ever encountered.

Zorro 2 250 1 2013Many of you will have been following the diary of Zorro, an abandoned podenco taken in by Kate and eventually arriving safely at the home of Bev Farmer. He is now ready for adoption. Here’s what Bev says about this stunning hound.

Zorro was rescued last year. He was only a few months old. Kate discovered him being chased by three cars, trying to run him over. At the time she was living in a tent on a camp site and it was very difficult trying to keep him there but she persevered.

  • Podenca Malaika – from Spanish hell to Spanish heaven!

Bev Malaika golf course 250 1 2013Regular readers will know the name Bev Farmer, who is a podenco passionata in Murcia and works tirelessly to help abandoned podencos on the route to a forever life. She also takes some stunning photos, I’m hoping she will have time to put together a podenco calendar for next year.

This is her story about Malaika, a young podenca bitch loose on a golf course.

‘There is something so special about Malaika, and the second I saw her I felt a very strong connection and had no intention of leaving her on that Golf course no matter what it took to catch her. Now she is with us and where will remain with us for ever.

Mike, who is a steward on the golf course, tried for months to get help for her and he never gave up. The day we caught her, Mike wiped a few tears away. Hannah, his wife, named her Malaika, which is Swalili for Angel and a perfect name
