Two Podenca Mums in Valencia – anyone room for them?
One of the things which amazes me about the refusal of the Spanish councils and authorities to do anything to stop the abandonment of dogs and cats is that there is a high health risk – toxocara canis. Dog mess everywhere, where kids walk and play! Here’s the tale of two more podencas, dumped and now with puppies to feed. Can anyone help?
This poor podenca is in the perrera in Valencia. You can see from the state of her that she is struggling to feed 10 puppies! They have been called the TRAPP FAMILY. She was picked up and taken to the perrera when a neighbour of the person feeding her threatened to poison her. In the perrera they ae all exposed to viruses and infection. Can anyone help this beautiful podenca? The brave TRAPP deserve our help.

Podenca Blanca in Jaen – looking for her forever home
This beautiful podenca needs a forever home. This is her recent story.
‘Blanca is a beautiful 3-year podenquita which was adopted last week in Barcelona.
Today is called the adopter and says he wants to return it because the dog follows her everywhere and is overwhelming. Blanca has been abused and needs a home to help her overcome her fears. We cannot let her return to our shelter in Jaén. We are saturated and there are fights every day. Some die when attacked by other dogs. Blanca does not deserve that after having experienced the warmth of a home.If anyone can help, write me abyda@live.com.

This is the story of Resu, a podenca rescued by Pro-Galgo. Here’s what Mo Swatek says.

She was totaly bloated because of the accident, the puppies had died in her womb and she was already suffering the consequences of septicemia. During the emergency caesarian, her heart stopped 3 times but the vets managed to bring her back to life. She was called RESU from resurrection. WHAT A FIGHTER OUR PODENCO GIRL.

25th March 2011 – join the march against animal cruelty
On www.noalmaltratoanimal.org you can read or see about a big manifestation through whole Spain on the 25th of March against mistreating of animals and longer sentences in prison for people who are guilty of this.
There is a comprehensive list of all the major cities and towns where a march is taking place, including time and place to meet. Please attend and get as many of your friends, supporters, neighbours etc. to take part, if you live in Spain or the Canary and Balearic Islands. They ask for 80,000 people, I'm sure there could be many more.
UPDATE 28/03/2011 – people turned out in their thousands, it was very successful. When I get more news, I'll post more.

Zaragoza killing station – podencos desperately needing rescue
The hunting season is now over and hunters are getting rid of their '4-footed tools'!
These are the Perricos to be slaughtered in a few days at the Zaragoza perrera. This is the appeal I received'We are only two volunteers who have many dogs in kennels which we pay the fees and we can't take any more dogs. We have all this responsibility on our shoulders and we desperately need adopters for the dogs in our care, and more so we need special people who can rescue these young podencos before they are sacrificed in a few days.

Extremadura hunters – Fepaex says ‘Take Responsibility for your Dogs!
Podencos and galgos both suffer unimagineable cruelty at the hands of the Spanish hunters and gitanos – Spanish gypsies. Most publicity comes from the regions of Andalucia and Murcia, as well as the Spanish Islands Ibiza and the Canary Islands. However, the Spanish interior including the region of Extremadura is also hell on earth for galgos and podencos. Here is a report from Fepaex – Federacion de Protectoras de Animales de Extremadura.
THE PROBLEM for HUNTING DOGS in EXTREMADURA = Irresponsible HUNTERS + passive and complicit
