  • Traumatised Podenco Andi needs a special home

Regular readers will know the story of Podenco Pepe and his rehabilitation with Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends.  This is his brother Andi who also needs a special experienced understanding home.

We are desperately searching for a long-term foster home for Andi who is with Friends of Aprop in the Valencia region, Spain.
Please share , let’s make him visible to as many people as possible.

Just like Pepe, Andi is very anxious and fearful of people. The rescue has been working with a behaviourist, and he is now allowing gentle touch, which is a huge step forward. But sensitive, troubled dogs like these two boys will never truly thrive in a busy rescue environment.
They need calm.       They need quiet.      They need one person willing to give patient, one-to-one support. (more…)

  • SEPRONA rescue 11 abandoned Podencos from a semi-ruined house

The Civil Guard has rescued eleven pods abandoned by their owner after an alert of citizen collaboration.
The animals were locked up in a semi-ruined house, in severe unhealthy conditions and without food. The rescue was carried out by SEPRONA with the support of veterinarians from the Board of Castile and Leon.
The dogs have been moved to a suitable facility at the Burgos Municipality – responsible for their custody from now on – where they receive the necessary care until their final adoption.

  • Jaen, Spain – a hellhole for these podencos

Horrible what they’ve lived through, tied with short chains, all full of poop, a horrible smell and them, six bitches and a puppy, with ticks and fleas. Seprona has acted and we with little space and little means, we could not say NO and we have taken over. Two of them have a chip in the name of the person who had them and of course, he has handed them over, the others are without a chip.

Update 04-01 Three protectors take over all  of them. We are so grateful that our message of help has been heard.. THANK YOU!! and to all of you who spread them.

  • Podenco Pepe – slow progress being made in his rehabilitation

    Pepe and his buddy Hope

    Update from Bev Farmer

It’s been 5 weeks since Pepe arrived, and the progress we’ve made together may be small, but every tiny step matters. With a dog as deeply traumatised as Pepe, nothing can be rushed — it’s all about understanding what he can cope with and giving him the space he needs.
One thing that truly seems to comfort him is working together on the lead. When we’re moving with purpose, his focus settles and he becomes much calmer. So I’ve brought back the most basic obedience exercises from years ago, and to my surprise… he actually enjoys it.
He’s no longer constantly in flight-or-fight mode. Bit by bit, he is learning how to relax. He chooses to spend less time in his crate now. the door is always open for him if he needs it. (more…)

  • SOS Podenco Rescue – Podenco Abel hoping for his forever home

Meet Abel – the quiet soul waiting for his chance .
    Age: 2 years
    Size: 55cm | approx. 16kg (medium)
    Dog-friendly
    Cat-friendly

Abel is one of those special dogs who doesn’t rush into life, he watches, listens, and takes everything in quietly. He’s shy with new people, but once he realises you are safe, you can touch and handle him without any issue. He has a very gentle, cooperative nature.  With other dogs, Abel is calm and social. He isn’t playful right now, but he enjoys being part of the group and draws confidence from canine companions. With time, patience, and kindness, we believe he will blossom into a more expressive dog.  Abel isn’t asking for much, just someone who will see past a shy exterior and give him the space to feel safe.
