  • Aanifeira in Portugal – saving a blind podenco

Aanifeira gaia- 200 7 10 2012We sometimes question the wisdom of spending valuable and scarce resources on saving very sick or injured animals but, given the choice, I’m sure we would all make the effort. How many lovely stories have we read about hounds saved – Esperanza, Alphonso, Ulysees, and now Miel. • Portuguese Podenca Sonia – a forever home at last

Sonia Betty AMCF July 2011 250 A story with a Happy Ending. This is Sonia, a Podenco Portuguese, who spent most of the 12 years of her life in a shelter in Portugal. Last month her dream of a forever home came true when she was adopted into a loving home to join 5 more podencos, plus other oldies!

She was adopted from the association Aanifeira. I’ve only just learnt about them from Betty, who adopted Sonia to join her family of oldies, but I hope to get more information about their work.
