  • A serious case of neglect – now safe with Protectora Lugo in Galicia

Ana Lage sick pod 3 400
This is the worst case of mange I have seen in the 13 years since I’ve been helping the hounds in Spain. The Prdotectora Lugo in Galicia says ‘This little angel arrived a couple of hours ago at the Lugo Protectora, it looks like a little boy, brought here by the lacero from Begonte, it will be the waste of some hunter. Starving, sick and mostly cold dead, got into the heat of blankets and heat lamp. To know his life, what the poor guy has gone through, now he has to heal his body and surely his soul.

To the one who mistreats an animal like this, I wish the universe pays for it with the worst of life and the worst of deaths.’

  • Galgo’s Rescue Almeria – another podenca now safe

    GRA Lucia 2 400
    Sandy says

‘Today we welcomed Lucia, this young podenco was seen by Melanie and Chris last week. They quickly gained her confidence and she came to eat with them, and today they were able to catch her.

At first sight Lucia appears to be in good health, Monday we take her to the vet for a full check up.’

  • Podenco Campanero Gulliver – looking for a forever home

    SOS Podenco Rescue campanero 400 12 2020
Gulliver is a 2 year old podenco campanero found abandoned in Jaén. He is shy with people (more of men). He is excellent with other dogs, gets on with everyone no matter the size. Likes to play with them.

    Not tested with cats yet.

Big size, 65-70 cm to the shoulders.

Ideally he should have a home with another dog in a calm area and with a garden.

    From SOS Podenco Rescue.

These 2 sisters are Vera and Ayla are cat workable! They are very affectionate with people but they depend on each other so we would love to find a forever home either together or separately but with another dog so they are not alone.

  • Coping with hearing loss in dogs

    Bebe grey chair 400
My little Podenca Andaluz Bebe is now 17 going on 18 and age is starting to catch up with her. She’s already very grey in her face, on her legs and behind her ears. Cataracts are developing in her eyes and her hearing – in her gorgeous pointy ears – is failing.

Here’s an interesting article on coping with hearing loss in dogs.

  • Happy New Year to all my readers

    Happy-New-Year-Dog words 400
Happy New Year to you all.

Let’s hope the nightmare of 2020 and the virus will not be repeated in 2021 and that we may soon return to ‘normality’. For our beloved hounds, nothing much has changed. Some dogs were adopted to help people through isolation, hopefully they will stay there for their natural lives, knowing comfort, a full belly and lots of love.

Thank you for reading my blog and for supporting the appeals for help which I receive from shelters and associations. It still saddens me and makes me angry over the attitude of the hunters that their dogs are simply tools to be disposed of when they are no longer of use.
