  • Podenca Alma – no longer useful for hunting or breeding

    Rosemary Macdonal Alma 400 7 2019
Introducing Alma…Rosemary Macdonald tells her story.

Alma 6 year old female podenco. Alma is now safe in kennels being sponsored by Pam McLeod thank you Pam.
Alma has a sad story. I don’t know how these brave loving animals can be so forgiving of the human race. Alma was given by a hunter to another hunter to breed I would imagine, Anyway she was with pup but the puppies were found to be dead inside her so the hunter brought her to the vet to be put to sleep. Fortunately the vets refused and they agreed to sign her over to them.

The vets could no longer keep her so we have got her sponsorship for kennels. This poor girl, no one wants her. Please help me to find her a home, not just any home. She needs a home where she will be loved, where she will have time to adjust and settle in, she will be nervous at first. Ideally a home in the caountrysideas she is not used to being in built up areas. Please everyone share this girl she needs your help.

  • More concerns for Spanish rescues homing hounds in the UK

This is taken from Bev Farmer’s fb page Podenco Friends.

‘Changes to the entry of rescue dogs to the UK basically if the UK exit the EU with a deal or no deal the Euro tunnel will no longer be a designated Border Inspection Point for Dogs, Cats or Ferrets.. Some months ago the ferry companies stopped accepting transports with rescue dogs on and the only point of entry was the Tunnel. If this is correct the only means of transport will be by plane to the UK very few airlines fly dogs to the UK and the last one we flew over cost 600 pounds plus the cost of the crate paid by the adopter so will be beyond the affordability of most people .. I can not confirm if this is accurate information but

I am aware many agencies have been lobbying to stop the import of foreign rescues due to animals arriving sick and with incorrect paper work. If anyone has any information regarding these changes please let us kno. This is a statement copied from a post by the group below

  • Podenco Friends – bringing about life changes to podencos

    Bev Aaron 400 10 6 2019
    Bev Farmer tells Arion’s tale.

‘Arion when he arrived and now, June 2019)… restored to the noble & majestic Podenco Ibicenco he was born to be.. Trapped in ditch by the roadside unable to get out and at the time of terrible storms and flooding. If he had not been found I doubt he would have survived.

Here at the finca it’s a safe haven where we stop the cycle of abuse and neglect. We are temporary guardians for these very special dogs. Their destiny is changed for ever and thanks to so many people around the world they are given a second chance and live the life they deserve.

The podencos – a breed abused neglected and abandoned in their thousands every year. For Arion, he is one of the lucky ones

  • RIP PJ

    Bev PJ last pic 400 21 6 2019
    From Bev Farmer 21/6/2019

‘I took this photo of PJ at 12.30 pm yesterday thinking how well he looked and never thought that exactly 24 hours later I would have him wrapped in my arms and saying good bye.

PJ gained his wings earlier today… last night he became very ill, was disorientated and blind. This morning he seemed a little brighter and was at our vets first thing. Blood results confirmed his body was shutting down and although his spirit was strong he was so frail and I looked into his eyes and could see he was tired. After a lengthy discussion with my vets although I didn’t want to say the words it was time to let him pass peacefully.

  • Update on Carley & PJ

    Bev Carley and PJ 400 18 6 2019
Latest news from Bev Farmer on podenca Carley and galgo pup PJ who were rescued together.

‘Today we got the final results for Carley and PJ and its been a lot to process.

First Carley…the tumours removed in her recent surgery are malignant and a high grade. She needs to go back for a second surgery to remove the rest of the mammary tract and hopefully sufficient tissue to get clear margins. She had bounced back so well from her previous surgery and now she needs to go through another one. At the moment we don’t know if she will need further treatment i.e chemo, we will need to send tissue samples to the lab for analysis.
