  • Hope for Podencos- Sonny needs a foster or adoption for 22nd November

    Sonny

Date of Birth: 1st January 2023
    Gender: Male
    Size: 65cm (to the withers)/25kg
    Cats: Not tested

Sonny is a large pod who is lovely and friendly and likes to please! He is clever (like most pods) and is food oriented which makes him a great training prospect. He plays nicely with the other dogs, but we think would also do fine in a home on his own where his humans can lavish him with affection and give him lots of time and attention. He’s a confident boy and great around people – as he’s quite large, we think he’d be better suited to slightly older children. Other than that he’s pretty versatile in terms of the type of home he’s looking for!

  • Hope for Podencos – Lucky needs foster or adoption for 22nd November

    Lucky

Date of Birth: 26th May 2022
    Gender: Male
    Size: 55cm (to the withers)/23kg
    Cats: Not suitable for cats

Lucky is known as the velcro dog – he LOVES people, and does do well with both men and women when he first meets them. He’s happy when out and about on walks and doesn’t pull on the lead. He had previously been adopted in Spain but was a little anxious and sensitive around the man in the home so whilst we don’t want to rule out any potential matches we would need to caveat that any men in the home would need to work at his pace and be understanding to any nervousness displayed. Lucky prefers female dogs and would happily live with one or two. Alternatively we think he would also do well as an only dog.

Lucky could live in a town or rural setting, but he does need a garden as he enjoys being outside having a play with his doggy pals.

Lucky is a little over his ideal weight so a weight management plan would be shared with any potential adopters/fosters – this is not causing any health concerns for the vet.

  • Podenco Antonio hoping for an active forever home

    Antonio Video

Antonio is a beautiful 2 year old Podenco male with a gentle disposition.  Antonio was found on the streets of Fuerteventuras. Despite his past, he shows himself to be an extremely human, affectionate and friendly dog. The young male has a distinctive personality and needs both mental and physical exercise.  Even when dealing with other dogs Antonio shows himself social and uncomplicated – a real treasure who just wants to belong.  Now he only lacks one thing: a loving home where he can arrive and show what a wonderful companion he is.  Who will give Antonio a chance at a new life full of love and security?

  • Podenca puppy Pia – rescued injured from a perrera – please help with vet fees

From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends

Meet Pia.  This brave little Podenco puppy was discovered in a perrera at just 6 weeks old—emaciated, suffering with giardia, and with a dislocated knee. Without help, she wouldn’t have survived.
Thanks to Suspiros de Cuatro Patas, Pia received urgent care and has recently undergone specialist orthopedic surgery. She’s now receiving ongoing physiotherapy—a treatment that comes with significant veterinary costs. Galgopod have already stepped in with an emergency donation, but more support is urgently needed and they have organised a FB fund raiser to help her,
Every donation will help cover Pia’s treatment and also support the many other Podencos waiting at the refuge.

  • Nervous Podenco urgently needs a foster home in UK – arrives 25th October

Gala is booked to arrive in the UK on 25th October but we are still looking for a foster or forever home for this gorgeous girl.  She is really struggling in kennels and we already had to move her transport back a month. We don’t want to delay again.
Her kennel buddy Indigo was equally as nervous and went to his new home in Sept – he has absolutely flourished and we know Gala will in time as well. If you can offer space for Gala to relax and start to decompress please do get in touch. She will be so rewarding.
Please contact Hope For Podencos for more info and let’s help this lovely girl find a safe home to travel to.

  • Injured podenco puppy rescued from a perrera

    Bev Pia 8 2025 350
From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends

‘When a Podenco is no longer “useful,” this is what happens…

Pia is only 4 months old, weighs less than 3 kilos yet life has already been unbearably tough for her. She spent several weeks hidden away in a perrera, a frightening place for any puppy. Thankfully, a Spanish rescue stepped in and gave her a chance.

But Pia’s struggles didn’t end there. She was born with luxation of both patellas and will need surgery to walk and live comfortably. Most likely, this is why she was cruelly abandoned. On top of that, she is battling giardia, a parasite that can be life-threatening for a puppy if left untreated.

  • Podenco Campanero Gandalf hoping for a special forever home.

    Campanero Gandalf 350
Here comes Gandalf and his story immediately captured our hearts. Gandalf is a Podenco Campanero – he is 4-5 years old and he is deaf. He was separated from his master because he went to a nursing home. And then unfortunately his master died very quickly. He had called every day and asked for Gandalf. But that can’t be a phone call anymore.

Gandalf is a super sweet and affectionate male. He gets along with other dogs and very friendly with people. Gandalf is looking for a very experienced home or foster home due to his deafness. We are just incredibly sorry for him. Is there a light sight for the beautiful Podenco boy? He is already neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested negative for Mediterranean diseases.

  • The hard life of a Rehala podenco in Spain

    Rehala podencos 350
    From Asociacion Las Nieves

Today we have found, by chance, this article by the great Carlos de Hita: “The sadness in the look of a hunting dog.” Little more to say, than what he himself expresses in the article. From here we want to pay a sincere tribute to all hunting dogs.

    DOGS OF REHALA

Rarely the starting point for these sonic narratives is an image. In general, the photograph and the text accompany the editing. But this time all part of the sad and at the same time furious expression of the dogs in the photography. They belong to one of the rehalas that participated in a mounting in Sierra Morena on Sunday the 7th 2019, to put an end to that area to the hunting season.
