  • Protectora Scooby – summer newsletter – the Scooby Van

    The Scooby summer newsletter is 12 pages long. Sadly they don’t have anyone to put it on the Internet available for me to link you to it. So over the next few weeks I’ll be posting parts of the newsletter here. The first part – there are 9! – is about the Scooby van which suffered front end damage. No photos to post as I can’t save them from the pdf file.

    Our van is back on its wheels! For that we are very grateful to a grant-funding body we contacted to help us make up the shortfall left by the insurance claim. Even though we were not at fault in the accident, the insurance policy paid only part of the cost of the repair.

    And it was a big one! In addition to the damaged wing, we needed a new chassis. Our supportive mechanic and owner of our local Iveco garage restored the van to full working order within the most costeffective budget he possibly could.

  • Lure coursing in the UK

    Is this something you would do with your galgo? So long as the dog runs in a straight line? Greyhounds get injured when lure coursing on a curved greyhound track. Is it ok so long as there is no betting? What do you think?

    Mostly sighthounds from deerhounds to whippets take part, and sometimes border collies!

  • Podencos abandoned and injured on Spanish roads – happens too often

    It’s not worth giving up. We have to move on.

    It’s not only an inhuman who abandons her, also those who ran her over, left her stranded on the road and those who saw her and did not stop to help her. Beautiful girl, you gotta be strong and get through it, Jaén’s footprint friends are going to HELP you.
    It’s the third surgery of abandoned, run over and rescued dogs in this month of August alone.

    This is NOT a SOUL that can take so much pain.

  • Spanish hunter shoots himself!

    A hunter dies after accidentally shooting himself during a hunting trip between Guadix and Baza

    The incident apparently occurred after a stumble and in the presence of a minor son who was accompanying him.

    A 38-year-old hunter died last Thursday from an accidental shot from his gun, which hit him in the side, during a day of pigeon hunting in a spot near the border of the municipalities of Guadix and Baza.

    Sources consulted by Europa Press at the 112 Andalucía Emergency Coordination Centre have indicated that it was at 10:25 a.m. this past Thursday when a warning was issued that the hunter had accidentally shot himself in the vicinity of a restaurant in the Los Balcones area, specifically to the left of the GR-7100 road in the direction of Bácor (Guadix).

  • Stunning Podenco Spaceman looking for a special home

    Spaceman is with Hope for Podencos.

    ‘We’re looking for a very special foster or adoptive home for this precious boy. We have no idea what happened to him during the 2 months he spent missing, but it certainly took its toll on this little man as he’s not quite as carefree as his brothers and sister who were rescued at 3 months old.

    Currently 5 months old, he is booked on our September transport with his siblings who are all adopted. Given his history, he has more specific requirements – we’re looking for a foster or adopter who are experienced with either Podencos or nervous rescue dogs who can give him the time and patience to flourish. Given his experience, we want to give him the best chance of a happy life in the UK so no cats or young children. We would prefer a home in an area that’s not too busy (no city centres) and would also like him to have a garden that he can relax in.

  • 3 rescued podencos – donations needed for transport to shelter

    These 3 podencos have been rescued and transport is arranged to take them to a shelter.

    ‘UPDATE: We have an asso who will take care of them but we have to pay the transporter: €130 for all 3 dogs. Once again, we need your help.Update, so far 80 euros has been donated so we need 50 euros more.

    Three stooges – all puppies. What can we say? Their looks don’t scream at us. Fear, panic, despair… We can take them out, break the chains that torture them. We are looking for an asso to offer them this waiting family and godmothers to help with their rescue.
